I got a Win 10 update and not have any audio ever since. I have been trying to resolve this issue and have not found the answer yet, please help. Besides the red X over the speaker icon in the tray, when r clicking it says Speaker setup (UNKNOWN). I have tried everything that Microsoft said to do:

Nothing worked. I went to Dell and downloaded and installed the drivers straight from their site, no relief. I can't seem to find the issue. I also just discovered that when I tried to use my printer through wifi, it shuts down my Chrome. When I open Chrome again, I am able to restore the open windows. And the printer itself says it doesn't recognize wifi. I am at a total loss.
Here is some info you might find helpful, I hope it is not too much. Thank you

I'd like to see what Device Manager looks like when showing all devices, installed and hidden.

Create a new Environment variable called devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices and set it's value to 1 as follows:

  • Right click on My Computer, Computer or This PC and select Properties
  • Click on the Advanced tab
  • Click on the Environmental Variables button
  • Click the New button under the User variables for xxxxx" area.
  • Set the Variable name as: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
  • Set the Variable value to: 1
  • Click OK as needed to close all the windows you opened.

To see the status of everything in Device Manager:

  • Open Device Manager:
    • XP: Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager
    • Vista, Windows 7, 8 and 10:Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings,
  • Make the Device Manager window full screen.
  • Click on View then Show hidden devices.
  • Click on the + next to anything that shows a yellow mark.

Press the Print Screen button to copy the Device Manager window image to the clipboard.

Click Start, type paint and press Enter.

Press Ctrl+v to paste the image to the MS Paint window.
Click File then Save as and save it to your Desktop.

Start a new reply.
Click on the More reply options button.
Click on the Browse button below the message input area.
Navigate to where you saved the picture, select it and click on Open.
Click on Attach This File.
Once uploaded, click on Add To Post to the far right of the uploaded file.
Scroll down and click Preview Post to verify the image shows.

I did everything step by step and as you can see there is nothing that is a yellow. I looked for that as well and did nt see it without going through all the steps you asked. Getting really worried now. Thank you for your help so far, I know we'll get this solved.

Expand Sound, video and Game controllers. What shows there?

What audio \device do you have?

You can leave the settings, they cause no harm.

You coudl roll back ther last Windows Update, see if that resolves the problem.

The difference I see between the imagies I sent you and the ones from 1019, when I got the laptop is that there was no migration. Would that have something to do with it? I can not roll back because the button is grayed out.

What audio \device do you have?

The left window says Intel Display Audio, the right window says Realtek Audio. Which one is in your computer?

Intel is onboard, Realtek is an add-in card?

What does Update History show you?Click on Uninstall an Update and see what is available at the bottom, under Microsoft Windows (nn)
Mine looks like this:

You may be able to uninstall the update from there.

You had two updates installed on the 16th. Uninstall them and see if that gets rid of your problem:

I did uninstall one of them and restarted. I tried to uninstall the 2nd one and as you can see, I can select it for uninstall, but the button won't work. I did get a notice that it updated after the reboot and you can see it on the image. I did run the troubleshooter again and it says the same thing.

Yes, it says they are both running. I have stopped them both and then restarted and I still get no change.
