I posted thee with no reply and wondered if I was over looked. If there was a BIG savings I would change but not if it was small. I want to build a VM.

Also if building should I use retail instead of OEM Windows Pro?

Got a link to what/where you posted? I don't remember a notice about it.

Don't know what this refers to, sorry.

Retail or OEM is exactly the same so go with the cheapest you can find. If you have a copy of Windows 7 or 8/8.1 Pro with key laying around, use it then do a free upgrade to Windows 10.

I thought OEM could not be used on another PC and if there was an issue with the PC -mother board -I would be stuck.

I hope you find the specs I listed to my build at Micro Center just down the street. They use Power Spec parts.

I would change the PSU from 850 to 650 gold.

My problem is if I get retail what about the privacy of the key if they build this for me.

The labor is $150 and warranty $200 for 2 years, no out of pocket parts or labor.

I want to build a VM and did not know if the SSD is big enough. Should I should have 12 GB RAM to save $ but still function well?

I was going to MC this am so it would be great to get some input.  :)

If you don't game why are you spending $1200 or $1300 for a computer + $350 warranty? You can buy a really good Dell or HP or ASUS or Lenovo for half that which will more than meet your needs.

If you have them build it for you, forget about key privacy. You have to trust someone Peter. Either that or you install Windows 10 yourself.

I'm talking Intel i7 Quad core 3.4Ghz

16GB RAM

1TB HD

500GB SSD boot drive

WIFi

Bluetooth

5.1 Surround

If you are doing this for fun or just because you want to then that's cool, I understand that kind of urge. If so economics should not enter into it at all, just get what you want.

As for OEM vs Retail, they will both work fine. OEM is typically OEM System Builder and is meant for people who build and sell computers but many, many people use it for computers they build for themselves.

The prebuilts I saw have parts like Adata and a PSU with 250 W.

I could drop the processor to i5 or i6 as $ is a consideration and I don't game.

I understand about the retail and OEM now.

So from the attachment I lowered the PSU, Processor, but kept RAM @ 16 GB.

My HDD can be used as it is only months old and will be with the SSD.

Warranty $279 and labor $150.

TY

Sounds good, good luck. (I'd keep the i7 though :D )

If I install a retail Windows 10 pro, do I get any stick or disc to boot from, or do I just get a key at a store and create a stick with the MCT entering my characters from the retail purchase?

I Googled this but it is vague; I think I set the UEFI too boot from a stick if that s what  get -In other words what do you get when you buy retail windows 10 pro?

Windows 10 Retail comes on a USB flash drive and should be bootable. Normally you would press the the Fn key that brings up the One time boot menu key where you can select it from and it would be listed under UEFI.
