okay sorry about that one.

I think I am missing a step somewhere. I watched this YT video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLMbHkarTMg   on how to create a bootable DVD with Imgburn.

I download the W7 file using utorrent, saving it to my desktop. About 57 secs into the video is where I am lost. I don't have the boot folder or any others shown, just the downloaded file from utorrent "en-windows-7_home premium……"

Where did I go wrong this time??

P.S. I'm going to go have some of that good, inexpensive red wine when this is over. Nah, think I'll have it now.

Thanks, Denise

The file that is download via the torrent should be a .ISO file. I think it is will be called:

en_windows_7_home_premium_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_676549.iso

That is the file you use as input to ImgBurn. The output of ImgBurn is the DVD disc that you will then boot to install Windows 7.

The method shown in the tutorial you linked works but takes unnecessary steps. Instead of extracting the files from the ISO to a folder then creating the DVD from the files in the folder, create the DVD directly from the ISO:

Put a new, unused DVD disc in the DVD R/W drive.

Click here to specify a ISO file as input

Choose the ISO file to use

📎ImgBurn2.jpg

Use the ISO file from the torrent download

📎ImgBurn3.jpg

Start the DVD durning process

📎ImgBurn4.jpg

That's it. The DVD disc will be created.

It looks like this has worked. I have been downloading all the MS updates and so far so good.

In step 22 and 23 on the repair install tutorial I don't have a C:\Windows.old file or the "discarded by Windows upgrade" on the disk clean up. Should I be concerned about this?

Also, since I took the repair install option, should I have the PC checked for malware, viruses or unsafe programs?

Thanks, Denise

Once all updates are complete, definitely run you anti-virus and anti-malware scans.

Also, start doing regular image backups using a program like Macrium Reflect Free to an external USB hard drive. If you don't have one, get one.  It's worth it's weight in gold as far as I'm concerned. There is no security better than a good image backup.

I have a Samsung Canvio 1TB drive and a Seagate 2TB drive, both of which I use for image backup of my Desktop, Web Server and 2 Laptops.

I'm sorry, what I meant to ask is should I now go to the WTT virus/malware forum and have them check to make sure I don't have anything dangerous on her PC.

I did run the Norton full scan and nothing came up. There aren't any other malware scan programs on the PC that I am aware of.

Thanks again, Denise

I don't think you have any left overs but it's worth getting checked out. Includ3e a link to this thread when you post there.

Good  luck, and good job being persistent :)

Going over to malware forum now.

Again, thanks a gazillion. Don't know what I'd have done without the group all these years.
