So I got an Inspiron… forget the number it doens't matter… laptop. It was blazing fast for a laptop (at least for me, as I'd owned a budget PC from 2005 up until this point) and awesome. I thought I wanted to personalize it a bit so I went online and downloaded wallpapers.. and that's when this computer got slow. I mean slow to load, even slow off of the internet, taking minutes upon minutes for a simple notification banner to disappear. It's really annoying considering this device is less than a week old. I don't think it's a virus because I had Malwarebytes installed (with the 1 week premium trial, meaning I had the best protection in real time), I installed skype, and THEN the pictures. And after the pictures, it all went downhill. Like I said, this PC is new so I've barely done anything to it. I deleted the pictures completely but this problem still persists. My threat scans found nothing. What am I to do?
5559 is the model number. But you don't have to do that. I can find how to do it. I just thought resetting would be an OS thing.. not something that varied by model. Thank You.
sorry for butting in, but wanted to correct ztruker a little about malwarebytes, definitely use both an anti-virus program and malwarebytes like he advises though.
Malwarebytes is not an anti-virus program, it's an anti-spyware and should be used in conjunction with a real anti-virus program.
it's not just an anti-spyware program, and detects much much more.
Windows 10 does provide a Refr4esh and Reset function but that was not what I thought you were looking for. That's why I mentioned a restore to factory new state, and that does depend on the model somewhat.
From what I can find:
To restore the system to factory conditions you can start the computer and TAP the F8 key and choose Repair Your Computer and follow the prompts.
Restore the computer's software to original condition
Turn on the computer. As the computer starts, press on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen. Press the on the keyboard to select "Repair Your Computer" on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and press . Specify the language settings that you want, and click Next. Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and click OK. Click Dell Factory Image Restore. In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next. Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box. Click Next. The computer is restored to the default factory configuration. When the restore operation is completed, click Finish to restart the computer. The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received. Step 4: Restore your personal files and data from backups
