So a few days ago Windows Explorer started running VERY slowly. Since the problem started I have tried:
Rebooting
Running a Norton Security (latest version) full scan (no issues)
CCleaner clean up (including Registry)
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (found issues but didn't fix this problem)
Safe mode boot - Explorer still ran slow
SFC tool (no errors)
msconfig - turn off all startup items
msconfig - turn off all Services
None of these items helped. I read this post here to get some of the ideas I tried above.
Now I am stuck and frustrated waiting for any windows explorer window to open or change.
I made some tweaks to what is being indexed and am rebuilding the search index now. Hopefully this will help.
Thanks in Advance.
Try resetting Internet Explorer:
To reset Internet Explorer settings
Close all Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
Reopen Internet Explorer.
Click the Tools button, and then click Internet options.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset. …
In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
Change or reset Internet Explorer settings - Windows Help
If that doesn't help, try a different web browser.
My Internet browsers (Chrome and IE) have been working fine all along. It's Windows Explorer that isn't working as it should. That being said, I reset as you suggested as it couldn't hurt. No change to Windows Explorer.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Reindexing finished. No help. Nuts!
What OS, what version of IE?
If you click on Tools, Manage Add-ons, what shows as enabled?
Windows 7 Professional SP1
IE: 11.0.9600.18204
Enabled Add-Ons: HP Smart Print, Norton Toolbar, Norton Identity Protection. (I disabled all three but it did not help, so I re enabled them).
Naive question, are Internet and Windows explorer so related that IE settings affect the running of Windows Explorer?
FYI, I was running a Windows update when you last posted. After that, when I started IE, it behaved as if it were just installed.

That is caused by doing the reset which puts everything back to the way it was after you first installed IE11.
You could try uninstalling IE11 from Control Panel, Programs and Features, then use Windows update to download and install it again or do so manually.
Does this have anything to do with Windows Explorer?
I don't know but at this point I would concentrate on IE.
Uninstall, reinstall and test.
