Dear Person;…

Seems like once you get your first problem , it's like the dominos are falling !!!

I recently was here with some malware (Ransomeware) that Satchfan did a GREAT job removing it & some other bad stuff…

I have a new problem that is driving me up a wall !!!
I'm getting a LOT of pages that say:=>.."This Page Can Not Be Displayed!!""
At the bottom left is a box that says;=>..""Fix Connection Problems""
When I click on that it goes thru a diagnostic run..
When is's done , MOST of the time , it says;=>..""The "DNS" Server isn't Responding !!!""…
I thought that my modem was the cause..
I called my ISP & we reset the modem MANY times..
It helped , but it only works for a few minutes at best , then reverts back to the problem..
I tried the IE reset thinking my browser is corrupted or ???
No help there either…
I found a "Fix IE" file online & ran it…
NO help there…
So , I thought that I picked up another piece of malware again !!!
I ran a FULL scan of Windows Defender in normal boot..
After a THREE  & a HALF hour scan , the results were my computer is clean..
I then went to "Safe Mode" & ran MBAM ..(35 minute scan !!!)..
No infections there..
Just one lonely PUP which I deleted..
I then ran an ESET online scan…(55 minute scan)..
NO infections there…
I finally ran a Sophos scan..
NO infections there either !!!
ALL scan programs were FULLY updated before scanning..
So , I think I'm virus & malware free..
IF you think I DO have some sort of virus or malware & suggest I go back to the Malware Removal Forum , I will..
I rebooted & went to this website I found online;=>..
http://atechjourney.com/dns-server-not-responding-error-fix.html/
While there I tried the folowing;=>..
""•Do a power cycle of modem and computer.
Turn off your computer and then turn off the modem and router (if present). Keep it turned off for 5mts. The power is turned off for 5mts to make sure the power is drained out completely and ensure proper reset of settings.
•Now turn it on and check if the problem is fixed"""
It wasn't !!!…
I tried changing DNS addresses & it didn't work !!!..
I think my security software is OK , but , I could be wrong..
They scanned perfectly , so I doubt that that's the cause..
I have the same problem when in "Safe Mode with Networking..
I also ran "ncpa.cpl" in Command Prompt as Adminstrater..
I unchecked “Internet Protocol Version 6“….
Neither worked..
Just for drill , I ran built-in defrag..
Didn't need it but ran it anyway..
I ran the Windows Disc Cleanup feature..
Had about 3.6 GIGS of unneccessary files cleaned up…
It wouldn't do it at one shot..
So , I broke it down to smaller chunks & ran it that way…
Took about 2+ hours…
Also NO help..

There you have it..
My problem & everything I tried to resolve it..
I need some help (AGAIN !!!) from you EXPERTS !!!

THANK you VERY much in advance…
BTW;…
This website is NOT exempt from the problem !!!
It showed "This Page Can Not Be Displayed!!"" 3 times while I was posting this !!!

Ron,  what browser are you using? Have you tried Firefox?

Try running IE with no Add-ons.

Press Window key + R, type iexplore -extoff and press Enter.

You will get a Internet Explorer is currently running without add-ons message. Ignore it and click on Home then do some testing.

If all okay then an IE add-on is the problem. Click on Tools then Manage Add-ons and start disabling them a few at a time and see if you can figue out which one is the cause.

If that doesn't help:

Open a Elevated Command Prompt:

Press WIN + X to open Start context menu.

Select Command Prompt (Admin).

Paste the following into the Command Prompt window, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & reg query "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" | find /i "proxy" >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted. Close the Command Prompt window. Post results in a reply here.

THANKS Rich…

I have IE 11…
Tried FireFox in the past..
Wasn't happy with it..
May be open to try again…
I also tried to find a download for IE 10 to try..
Could not find …
I will try without add-ons after I post this…
I jumped the shark & did the Command Prompt procedure for you to look at while I test IE11 without add-ons…..

Here are the Command Prompt results;=>..

Rich;..
I screwed up..

Before I got the email from WTT , I changed the modem to a "suspected " good modem..

I then ran the Command Prompt with that modem…
There IS a chance that that modem could be part or all of the problem….

I will run the Command Prompt file again & re-post the correct info…
SORRRYY about that…

That all looks good Ron and I see you are using the OpenDNS servers which is also good.

Your ping times are high in two of the four responses. That sort of indicates your problems
are external to your computer, like the ISP modem or network.

Ztruker;…

THANKS , Rich….

I had a gut feeling that that was the case…
FYI:…
Swapping modems , NO help…
I ran IE 11 with no add-ons..
Did not see any change there..

I did check "Manage Add-ons in the "Internet Options" & did not see any that were changed..
They all appeared as they were before I went this route;=>..iexplore -extoff
So , I'm not sure that IE 11 is OK…

One quick question;..
WHO controls the "DNS Server" & where IS it ??…

Have a GREAT day & week…

Later…Ron.M… B) …

Ztruker;…

I've been offline for a solid week !!!
My ISP (Centurylink) must have novices for techs !!!
I won't fill you in with the details , but , suffice it to say it WAS frustrating !!!
The modem came up good…
Bottom line , the problem was caused by a series of bad ports on their server (DNS , I presume)..
I read some of the info in the webpage you gave the link for…
VERY informative !!!
THANKS…
I re-ran the "Command Prompt procedure" & was wondering if you'd take a look & see how this new port compares to the first one I gave you that had the limping bad port..

Here is the new data;=>..

Your ping times are still a little slow but they are consistent. Overall, much better.

How do you find it now? Good or still laggy?

Ztruker;…

Since they fixed it , it is MUCH FASTER  !!!!!… …
NetZero's speed was 5 KBps    vs Centurylink's 750 KBps to around 1 MBps… ,,..
So it's a VAST improvement…
….

I can't thank you enough for ALL your expert help & advice !!!… :notworthy: ….
THANK YOU VERRRY MUCH !!!! :yeah: ….

Have a GREAT day & weekend…. :) ….
