Aww thank you Peter   and your welcome my friend. These days a monitor should have both VGA and DVI and even a HDMI port,  it will depend on your video card as well to what it has for a connection port to your viewing device,  my Ra... Go to the full post

I have a Dell XPS 8300 x 64 with Win 10 pro.

My monitor is a Dell E176FP 15 pin VGA.

I experience "auto adjust in process" when booting.

I have gone to Dell and spent hours trying to resolve this issue. I guess being 9 years old I have gotten my money's worth.

I also power cycled it.

I think it is a driver issue as I ran a dx on the machine and the card tested fine.

Is it possible to get a driver update  installed rather than a PnP MS driver?

I know it would not be for Win 10, more like Win 7 but I thought updating it a bit might help.

Bad idea?

PS I just noticed in "My content" I have already posted about this issue. I do not know how to switch it over to be in the appropriate thread. I am very sorry about this over sight and the work it entails.

to be honest peter i think your problems probably stem from the graphics driver and not the monitor driver so even though you download or upgraded the graphics driver manually and it fixed your problem for a short while, i believe win 10 may be over riding those drivers during it's update cycle and re-installing a driver that is causing your issues with the monitor so until win 10 solves all it's teathing problems with updates and drivers, you may be stuck with this problem for a while.

latest dell driver for that monitor i can find is from 2011 so not sure if that will work with win10, no harm in trying it i guess :- http://www.dell.com/...?driverId=YM3D0

now having no experience whatsoever with win 10 the best i can do is link you to a google search that may have topics that contain a solution on how to stop win 10 from automatically updating drivers you've manually installed. :- https://www.google.c...graphics driver

Your in luck,  this is an on going issue with Driver Updates for Windows 10 and there are several ways to bypass the update,  if you just uninstall the driver Windows will just install it again on the Scheduled Windows update,  I will tell you the main one because the others involve Group Policy and Registry Value changes and it depends on what version you have,  and it may also cause you misery as Windows will send you out the nag screens.

Ok for this option MS has a client app for download,  basically you will look for installed updates and then delete the driver update then you will need to hide it,  this will prevent MS Updates from downloading that driver until a time that the driver patch or update is ready to roll out and compatibile for Windows 10 get it from below.  I included a screen print for you as well.  You will need to install the driver though again manually that you do want installed.

Rich - I downloaded it, saw three entries and one said to install so I clicked and it said successfully installed. I have not yet tested it but will and thank you for taking the time. I have kept it for future use. Peter

PS  Unless I did it wrong, it still says the same thing -but thank you.

@roadrage - My web cam light staying on and the auto adjust at boot are the 2 topics but I think we are talking about the auto adjust right now. Just to be sure.

I think I am to download the update I want then delete and hide the KB3073930 update. I notice it says Windows will not install a hidden update so can I just hide it instead of deleting and hiding it, to be on the safe side?

Secondly, regarding drivers, what one am I looking for the NVidia one or the monitor one provided by other members? The monitor does not have a current one. Appreciate the help.

@terry - thanks for the nvidea driver.

If the drivers are good and no problems,  then yes hide it for now so MS does not install an update for your driver that is unstable, you can always go back and unhide it when there is a new working driver update at your convenience.

Drivers for hardware are being updated as fast as they can,  understand that some hardware will not be updated and the manufacturer will tell you that if you use it... you use it at your own risk,  you can go to the site below and do a check with MS as to what has been ok'd to run with Windows 10.

Will my hardware, devices or programs work in Windows 10

See what works

After hiding the update you have shown, do I wait for Windows or install mine?
If it is mine, do I install nvidea or what?
I am not sure what to do after hiding the update!

If you are not having any problems with your video card right now then you should be good to go, otherwise follow what Terry1966 and Ztruker have already replied to you with,  my reply is only for you to stop updates from MS if your Nvidia drivers are good to go or you had problems with it in Windows 10,  I am not sure what kind of video card you have or is it an onboard video port because your Dell has about 3-4 different video driver brands,  if you know post back your video card brand and what model, you did mention Nvidia so I am assuming that is what it is we just need to be sure,  let Terry and Ztruker look it over since they are helping you,  but do let us know about your monitor problem or if it is ok now.  If you know what driver you need and have installed it before and everything worked fine then use that one,  remember now if the video drivers were ok before you made them hidden then you are good to go for now,  no need to re-install.

Edit:

My monitor is a Dell E176FP 15 pin VGA

Just saw this so you have an onboard video port and for now Dell is going as fast as they can to get drivers updated. go to the site below and look at the Video (15 Files).

Product not tested for Windows 10 upgrade

Dell has not confirmed that this product can upgrade to Windows 10. Some drivers, firmware, applications, and connected devices may not work as you would expect.

just to clarify what i understand roadrage to be saying peter,

is first download and install the nvidia driver (any one that stops the problem, it may not be the latest version but an older version for your card that works without monitor issues.)

then second hide it in win 10 and from that point on, it won't get automatically updated or changed so you shouldn't have any more problems with the monitor always auto adjusting.

NVidia GE force GE 420 is the card. When I download the file it starts to install the says failed.
I am really confused at this point.
I owe you all a big apology and a thank you for trying but I think my old equipment is not working with the new and there are no current drivers out there.
My web cam light stays on and he auto adjust persists but I will either live with it or go back to 8.1.
I am going to retire the issue and thank you all once again.

I see version 355.60 for Windows 10 64 bit here:   GeForce Windows 10 Driver   (this looks like it was released today)

What file are you downloading?

You could also try going to an older driver, see this thread: I solved by installing the driver version 345.20.

not to worry, i get confused all the time.

ok first thing i'd do is make sure no driver updates are hidden in win 10, no idea if this will or will not interfere with trying to install the graphics driver if it's hidden by win 10 but i'd do it anyway just in case it does.

then i'd download both the drivers ztrucker linked to in above post, try installing the newest first, if it succeeds and installs, go into win 10 and then hide the driver so it won't get updated auatomatically at any time, next turn off the pc for a couple of minutes just to make sure the card isn't still using any old settings and clears itself now start the pc and see if the monitor problem has disappeared, if so all well and good and with luck you'll never see it again.

if the problem is still there unhide the driver again in win 10 and try installing the 2nd older nvidia driver if that installs fine, again hide it, and run through the shutdown, restart process again and see if the problem is gone this time.

if the drivers won't install then we'll run through how to clean any old drivers and do a clean install of the nvidia drivers to see if they will install now.

the web cam light is just another driver problem probably and we'll work on that later, might even be cortina or some other win 10 feature using it's built in mic if it has one and that's why it is always on, turning off cortina may be all that's needed to solve that problem but like i said we'll get to that later, just concetrate on the monitor auto adjust problem at the moment. ;)

Peter,

I assumed since it was a 15 pin you were using your onboard VGA,  do you have a DVI cable to try connecting from your monitor to your Video card ?
