Hello

After changing the hard drive on my Dell XPS 8300, the directions say to tap F2 to enter the BIOS and attend to system configuration.  There are 4 tabs and each has a lot of information.

I cannot capture a prntscrn etc. so how am I supposed to know all the information there?

Or, is it necessary to know it  all?

Camera with no flash?

A related question is; I was told to set the cd/dvd as first in the boot sequence and hard as second but, Dell says, by default, hard is first and dvd/cd second.

Which is right?

Thank you

there shouldn't be a need to alter anything in the bios after changing your hard drive, as to which is right cd or hd first in boot order then there is no right or wrong way to do it, both are correct, only difference being if for any reason you need to boot a cd/dvd before your hd then you'd have to manually change the boot order if the hd is first.

also having the hd first in boot order means it will get to the windows os about 1/2 a second quicker.  :D

personally any pc's i set up always have the cd/dvd as first boot device followed by the hd.

On all Dell's that I've seen, you can press F12 during boot to bring up the Boot menu from where you can select to boot from the DVD drive. No need to change anything in BIOS.
