Hi, As some of you know, I installed windows on a new pc over the weekend.  I thought I had saved my emails, but, seems it didn't work out too well.

The drive windows was on is still in the old pc so I tried to boot into it again to take my email off it, but the pc just kept telling me to reboot and give the right drive to boot from.  There is only the one drive in the pc.

There was another one on a y cable and I put that back in as well in case that was causing the problem, but still got the same thing about the boot.

Should this not work, or I am just chasing rainbows?

Thanks for reading and in advance for any help offered.

Hi Guys, well, I think I'll abandon that idea.  Not getting anything except 'reboot and state source disk to boot'.  This is already set, and as terry said I changed the boot order to suit the dvd, then the drive order. Still nothing.

Ztrucker, you asked about my email and I said WLM, perhaps I should have said BT Mail, but I use it through WLM.  Mind you, with what I have to go through to get it back, I'm thinking about changing to something Yahoo.  Now that I've had time to check them back off the server, instead of a possible thousand emails which I had on my last pc, I now have 311.  Where did they all disappear to off the server??  Your guess is as good as mine.  Not good enough.

Enough procrastinating for now.  Thanks again for the help guys, much appreciated, as always.

I never leave mail on the server, I always download it to read locally.

I also do regular image backups as well as automated data backups using Mirror Folder. Good backups means you don't lose anything, ever.

I've never used Windows Live Mail, but I assume it stores mail similar to Outlook or Thunderbird.

We don't you just connect your old drive to your new computer?  Then just import your old files off your old drive into your new setup?  If you used outlook it would be .pst files you need.  In thunderbird, you just need the files in the Mail folder.  I think Live Mail uses .eml files.
