Thank you. I shall now buy the stick in a few days time and report back. I live in Holland. Will that make a difference ? My pc is able to receive and transmit

wifi.  How does Router come into the equation ? No hurry, when you have a few moments.

Besides being ancient I am also most unqualified about technical matters. Simply I want see personal video from my hdd, and also see,on the tv,when I

watch Cricket matches streamed on a website. Tv screen is bigger!!!!

if your tv is wifi capable, you may not even need to buy a chromecast to stream video from your pc to it.

eg.

HOW TO CONNECT YOUR Wi-Fi TV TO A Wi-Fi PC

Wi-Fi.jpgThe assumption here is that you already have a home Wi-Fi network, your computer is Wi-Fi equipped and you either have a TV with built-in Wi-Fi, or Wi-Fi Ready with the adaptor installed following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Note: Instructions will vary with the manufacturer of the TV and/or PC. Read the user manuals.

1. Turn on the TV and Computer.
2. From the TV menu enable the Wi-Fi mode.
3. Select the Wi-Fi input on the TV as you would Video 1, DVR, etc.
4. On the PC, you should be prompted to select the Wi-Fi connection to the TV. Some PC manufactures (notably Sony) have a dedicated button on their laptops to activate this connection.
5. Follow the TV manufacturer’s instructions on how to link the TV with your Wi-Fi network. It may be necessary to enter the security key or password to allow your network to recognize the TV as an access point.
6. A re-boot of the network router may be necessary.
7. The TV may display a four-digit passcode for you to enter on the PC.
8. The PC should then recognize the TV as a device connection
9. Even with the correct input selected on the TV, you may not see a picture.
10. If so go to the PC’s Control Panel and select “Adjust screen resolution.”
11. You will see images for two different displays.
12. Click on display number 2.
13. Now choose “Extend the desktop onto this monitor.”
14. Click “Apply.”
15. The HDTV screen should now show the Windows desktop photo.
16. If prompted, click “Keep display settings.”
17. You may need to adjust the resolution to get a larger image on the TV.
18. Open windows on the PC screen may need to be dragged to the TV.
19. You should be set, but be warned that Wi-Fi networks can be finicky when it comes to adding devices or making changes.

what is the make and model of your tv?

i'll see if i can find out if it's possible and what the correct steps are that you'd need to follow to achieve this, it may require some software installed on the pc from your tv makers web site.

your router comes into the equation because both the tv/chromecast and pc need to belong to the same wifi network (your home wifi router.) before they can talk to each other and pass the video stream from one device to the other.

Hi,

Connected by wire-----these words set me thinking. Got hold of a long hdmi cable . Bunged little end into my
video card and the other into the tv. Viola, my pc now has a 42 inch screen!!!!

Watched video in comfort. Looking forward to the test match beginning on Sunday.

Thank you very much. You are a good man.

glad you got everything connected and running to your satisfaction.

that's exactly how i have my setup.

like you i play my media on one monitor, actually watching a netflix now, while using the 2nd to monitor to do other things on the internet like write this reply.

wifi devices like chromecast are handy for people who can't or don't want to run an extra cable round the room, but i always prefer to use cables if possible.
