Hi,

Shortly after booting up and after the desktop appears my PC occasionaly freezes along with the timer icon. I have to force restart a couple of times before the pc becomes usable.

I think it is either one or two things ESET av (which I tried once) or the OS/HDD.

  • I've ran chkdsk along with other 3rd party HD drive checks
  • Tried system restore
  • Run virus/malware scans - nothing
  • SFC /Scannow
  • Can't see any exclamations in device manager
  • The computer will always boot up in safe mode with no trouble at all.

However there have been a number of errors listed in Event Viewer:

The ESET Service service hung on starting
* The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

* This appears after a forced restart

.

The DNS Client service depends on the NetIO Legacy TDI Support Driver service which failed to start because of the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
The TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service depends on the Ancillary Function Driver for Winsock service which failed to start because of the following error:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
Audit events have been dropped by the transport.  0

Has anyone any suggestions before I reimage the system or buy a new HDD please?

I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance

Hi Ztruker, as always thanks for the reply.

No mini dump folder I'm afraid. In the meantime I have uninstalled & reinstalled NOD with a thorough clean of its components in between.

  • In safe mode: disabled the Eset service in Windows' service manager
  • Uninstalled Nod
  • Tried to find and delete Nod's ehdrv driver using device manager - it wasn’t there

Reinstalled and my pc, fingers crossed, seems to be working again.

It's doing that thing again.

Hi jcgriff2,

Thanks for the suggestion, that's what I used in the second step.

ztruker - Do I need to turn on error dumping in the BIOS?
