Hello

I have used both MSIE 11 and Firefox 25 but neither has allowed me to copy and paste some information that was too long to retype .

I made some obvious public blunders then went to "test" to see if I could solve this issue. I have long used WTT and would appreciate a suggestion as to how to resolve this copy paste issue.

I have some what I consider important information to bring to the forum.

Thank you

Peter

I copy and paste large amounts of data all the time using IE8, 9, 10 and 11, Firefox (latest) and Seamonkey.. Can you be more specific?

Copying from where to where? If from web page, provide link?

I just tried to copy from a Word doc to WTT with MSIE 11 but it said I need to use the clip board. When I allowed it, all disappeared.

Importantly, when I just used Firefox, It said my browser will not let me paste directly and to use the 3 keys to paste into the box and click ok. I did and it then pasted into the dialogue box.

There is something wrong with my browser settings. they are set to default so the protected mode is on which causes warnings on most sites. if turned off it says my security is at risk.

I only have MBAM and SpywareBlaster with no special buttons ticked..

Hello all

I am sorry to be so persistent but I have performed all the suggestions to no avail. I can copy and paste from anywhere to anything except WTT. Others have no problem so it must be me. I have liked this forum or years so would like to fix this if I could.

This is what I do; I copy content like a paragraph from Word. I then open WTT and click the little Word box hoping it would open so I could cv it then ok it to appear in the main window. I cannot just copy and paste to the main window.

I have tried all 3 icons Word, plain text and the other. Sometimes the box will open and I cv it then ok but nothing appears in the big window.

If I use Firefox, I can click on the plain text little icon and it opens. I then cv and ok and then it appears in the main window.

I have protected mode enabled by default with Explorer 11. I have no other unusual settings. My gateway is normally configured.

I have SpywareBlaster MBAM and that's it.

What is puzzling me is this is the only site where I cannot paste to with either browser. The last thing I can try is disabling protected mode in explorer and continue testing in the test forum site.

If anything I have said raises a red flag, I would really appreciate it.

Peter

I just tried pasting from IE 11 on my laptop running Win 8.1 pro. It doesn't work if in Rich Text edit mode, which is the default.

If I click on the small icon at top left of the reply window and switch to plain text then I can paste. Once done, switching back to rich text mode shows the formatted data I pasted. Loses pictures and such from Word though.

Best you can do for now is to run in plain text mode until Blair figures out what is wrong.

Can you paste directly into the post without using one of the icons.
  • Just highlight the text you want to copy
  • hold your ctrl key and press the C key to copy to clipboard.
  • Come here to your post box and just click in the box to be sure the cursor is there and then hold the ctrl key and press the V key to paste.

I'm afraid the best answer at this point is, "use another browser".

Our forum software, IP.Board uses a 3rd party, open-source browser, CKEditor. It has not yet been updated to work properly with IE11. In addition to pasting, there are issues with the input dialogue not closing when entering links. It will be updated, but there as been no indication of when to expect an update.

@Ztruker - Yes, I do have Firefox to paste to the forum. MSIE11 won't even do plain text consistently for me. Sorry this took so much of your time but I wanted to see If this was on my end so I could try to fix it.

It is my 1st and favorite forum so I'll be back with Firefox.

@Tomk - Thank you for the suggestion; that was my second try.

@Blair - I know you have a tremendous task to deal with and as all browsers work except MSIE 11, members can still communicate with WTT and paste to it. I am sure you will eventually work it out with the MS  browser.

@ All - I know my replies sounded muddled but the newer Enhanced Protection Mode in MSIE 11 was acting up at the same time that the browser was not pasting. I was a bit guilty of cross posting as I thought they may have been related.

The persistent issue with the Enhanced Protected Mode disappeared.

!!!! Fyi, I just tried to copy and paste within this message as Enhanced Protection Mode is a lot to type, but it would not paste causing me to have to type it out again. Perhaps this will send up a red flag for you.

!!!The colored font are not working with explorer either.

Thank you for your patience and I wish I could help.

Peter

I thought you would like to know that I checked my clipboard and everything I copy and paste is there which is typical for the clipboard. It is functioning.

Sometimes what is not important to a level 5 person is significant to a level 10 person ergo the note.

Good weekend.

Just to confirm, it's not an issue with your system, or anyone else's. To offer a more technical explanation, it's the javascript in the post editor that's causing the issue. Modern websites rely a lot on javascript (not to be confused with Sun's Java). So web browsers expend a lot of effort improving javascript performance in each release. So while IE11 can brag about improved performance, some eggs had to be broken to make that omelet.

Thank you, Brian.

I now understand the circumstances.

I will use Firefox, continue posting here and eventually all will come together.

The complexity of what you all do is so far past me that I am glad you were succinct.

Peter
