I ran my super anti spyware on my comp to clean up alotta stuff. after it finished it wanted me to restart. so i did. Then it went to the login screen as normal. and i put in my password to login. It said that this version of windows has not yet been activated with a key. would you like to activate it? so i click yes. Then it gives me an error. saying..An error occured and prevented windows from being activated. i have noooo idea why this happened or how to fix it.
:welcome: Tribalnecktie,

Glad to see you have joined WTT.

Do you always log into your computer with a password? If not just click any key, enter, or OK when the Windows login offers passwork information required and mostly the computer will proceed to boot up normally.

Others will come by with their ideas, but it is unusual for SuperAntispyware free to cause the error you are having. Was the software used the one in the link above?

kind regards,
Thank you :) yea its never done that kinda thing before. idk why it would now. and i always have logged onto my computer with a password. i think when i deleted the viruses. it deleted a my windows key file. im not sure how to or even if im right. but wouldnt i just have to copy the same file from the xp disc back over to my win64 system file?? ive had this kinda problem before when i deleted my boot file lol. but i cant remember how to do it. or if thats what i have to do haha
I am sorry you are having problems with your machine, I suggest you try and do the following:

Backup/archive/copy

To be on the safe side I strongly recommend that before doing anything at all you check that your back up/archive/copy of all your important data, drivers, files, settings, work, etc is 100% up to date accurate and reproducible, (even if your back up is even only a day or so out of date, it's worth updating it now.)
Also don't forget to check that you have all your application Installation CD's to hand together with the product keys (including those for Windows itself)

Windows Protected System File Checker SFC
  • Start
  • Run
  • type:sfc /scannow (note the space between the c /)
Have your Win XP installation disc handy as if damaged files are found they will need to be copied across from your disc, if SFC can't find correct copies elsewhere.

Windows XP Installation disc not available or wrong Service Pack or SP1 when SP2/SP3 is needed. Please note that windows does not show a report at the end of the scan if all is fine with your system.

There are work- arounds to this problem but the easiest, by far is to borrow one and use that. It is perfectly OK to do this, for the purposes of running SFC,and if you ask around all your friends, you are likely to find someone who will be able to help you out.

SFC no disc, no friends able to help.

Well you will need to do it the harder way and as a registry edit will be required it is essential that you back up your registry before you do anything else. Then in the event of trouble it will be easier to repair your registry. Download ERUNT from here: link and take a moment to familiarise yourself with the programme and how to repair your registry with it if it should become necessary. At the same time it would be wise to create a System Restore point, post back here if you need instructions on how to do this.

For the alterations needed to run SFC If you go here link you will find detailed instructions on the copying of files and the system changes you need to make. When you have followed all the instructions, reboot you machine and try to run SFC again, and please let us know how you go.

Post back with more questions and an update.

Please post back and let us know how you get on and if we can help further.

kind regards,
ok. i cant logon to windows at all. so im not able to run the sfc to find out what i need. isnt there a way to go into recovery mode with the disc. and then look at all the files in that? then find out wich ones i need. and copy them over??
Ok. i can wait. i went into the rocovery console. and used the chkdsk thing and im running atm. im not sure how or if this will help at all.
Hi Tribalnecktie, interesting problem :pullhair:

Can you boot to Safe Mode by pressing F8 at boot time when the OEM logo appears? Keep tapping it every second or so till you get the Windows Advanced Options Menu.

If that works, select Last known good configuration that worked, see if that helps. Info on what it does here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307852

If not, use F8 again only this time select Safe Mode at the top. Login as Administrator, no password needed unless you added one. Once you are logged in, do as Tallin suggested and run sfc /scannow.
Ok well. like i said before. whenever i tried to login to windows. it would want me to activate it. then couldnt because it had an error. well i went in to the recovery console. and ran chkdsk on c: after waiting forever for that to be done. i got back to the login screen. and tried it agin. i clicked yes to activate it agin. and no error. it went to my desktop. and opened a window. i tried it and it couldnt establish a connection so it logged off. tried it this morning. and it got a connection. after that window dissapeared all of my icons i could see agin. and the task bar i could see. even better, all my firefox bookmarks are back (was the original problem i tried to fix) and my firefox opens up perfectly agin. (before i did all this) I did go into safe mode and run the sfc scannnow. and the cmd window popped up then dissapered. after that i used the chkdsk, and it said it found and fixed one or more problems. and i did try to boot with last good cfg as well. im not sure wich one worked but combined im running normal, and actually a little better. THanks you!!!!!!! :)
I am pleased to see Ztruker got you up and running and that the SFC scan also corrected a fault with your OS.

I would not stop there, please go to this link and follow thoroughly.

Only this week I had my computers checked out for Malware with a clean bill of health. It is good practice to do this when you have your system running well as you stated in your last post.

Let us know,

Kind regards,
