Hi. I don't know if this is a hardware issue or is actually more linked to the Windows program, so i thought i would start here. I bought a refurbished Toshiba computer about 6 months ago. It's a Satellite L-675-S7108. Maybe you know of problems that manifested with this specific computer? It worked fine for about 3 months, the last three months have been problematical. I am an elderly woman, so that could be part of the problem. I do not like downloading new versions…. takes a lot for me to be comfortable with anything on these infernal machines, and every other week there is an upgrade and I can't deal with the changes. this computer came with Windows 7. It didn't run like my old laptop. Now instead of getting an option box to run or save a download, all you get is the option to save or cancel. I hate having to go into downloads, don't ask me why, i just do. I had an old logitech M310 mouse left over from my last laptop…… it started giving me problems about 3 months ago, running really sluggishly, it won't move the cursor in a timely manner. No amount of battery changing helps. Now it moves the cursor only an inch, you want to move the cursor further, you have to use the scroll pad to move the cursor over. So I went and bought a dynex laptop mouse model DX-NPMSE……… worked super swell for 3 months….then about 2/3 weeks ago, i start my computer and get an message: the device is incompatible with my computer. Hello? worked just fine, then BOOM! Is this a problem with the USB port of this computer or with something internal that controls mouse operations? I have no problem with the little USB thingy you put in the port for the old mouse. it fits in snuggly and at least the mouse is operational, no error messages. I plug in the NEW mouse and it seems to wiggle in the USB port and i have gotten the mouse to work by playing with it for about an hour to get it in just the perfect position, it will work again, but it is tedious, really, I have sat here trying for up to an hour to manipulate it to a point where it will work. Granted, this has only worked twice, usually i just lose patience trying to get it to work, but it did work twice by exerting almost just a feather of pressure to the right spot. The computer has not been dropped so has had no trauma that would have loosened this USB port. I just don't understand why it worked one day and not the next. Also, this computer will no longer save passwords when i go to a website. Is this a glitch with Mozilla? I hate internet explorer, with internet explorer there are 10 million cookies a day, with mozilla there is more control in keeping them at bay. The password box would pop up all the time when i got this computer…… but i have had to upgrade the Mozilla program at least two or three times since i have had this. It's not so much the box not appearing any longer, it is more the on again, off again remembering of the passwords. The computer can go for a few days with no problems, then all of a sudden it just can't remember the password, you punch it in again, and it's fine for a few days. What's up with that? I'm an old lady, i can't remember passwords, i can't find the book i write the passwords down in, things just get very confusing and harder as you age. I need this dumb machine to remember passwords. I just need to know in your opinion does any of this sound like i just have a defective computer or is there some way to check the systems of the hard drive that they are working properly? Or does it sound like it is all malfunctions on the part of my mouse or the mozilla program?
hmmmmm, there was no edit button and i forgot to add a bunch….old woman with no brain cells left syndrome, sorry.

I was supposed to provide the link to the malware page i just came from. i thought i had a virus, turns out i didn't. at least it seems most of the logs i managed to post didn't show any viruses I think. the person working with me didn't say. i think it was just a glitch in the social fixer app really. i couldn't run all the programs they wanted me to because i couldn't open the zip files and every time i asked for instructions on how to open the zip file, they just said don't worry about it. oh well.

plus….. the other two major problems that have cropped up the last couple of months, the computer will just start running like molasses…. so slowly it can take up to five minutes to post a small sentance. one letter by one letter by one painstaking letter. it is so insanely slow. it will stop, seem to get some energy, then if you type really slowly, you can type up to four letters, then it stops totally for about 10-12 seconds, then you can again, one letter then one letter then one letter type another word ….and it stops, regroups, 10 seconds later you can again, type slow slow slow 3 or four letters….a sentance can take 5 minutes to type!!!!

plus….. i went away from this screen after posting the above message, i fiddled with the newer mouse and by propping a box under the usb device, i got it to work again, so with a working mouse, i decided to see how long it would take to not work, went and played a game that needed constant quick mouse movements. worked fine for a good hour, not sure the exact time, i guess between this post and the past post…..when i tried to come back to this screen, it was whited out and nothing worked. I couldn't pull up a new page, even control/alt/delete didn't get me out, everything was frozen……this happens frequently too, the computer just freezes if i go away to play a game or do some other program, when i am finished, and want to go back to checking where i had been previously on the web, it just is totally frozen, won't do a thing. I have just hit the power button to shut it down. then it pops up with everything that was there before, still can't access it, but at least now I can close those programs and bring up new pages.

sorry for the added reply post, i know over in malware they hate when you do that because it seems someone answered the initial question, but i guess i was away too long and there were no edit options anywhere.

edit again: plus, no cookies are ever shown when you go into tools and options, i used to be able to delete cookies as they popped up….. the computer no longer keeps track of
cookies…. or is it the mozilla program? i don't know. all i know is i hate internet explorer, i got way more viruses when i used internet explorer and it's all about cookies on internet explorer, i could control them better with mozilla, but for the last two-three months, it doesn't register any of them, and you have to know every website you go on has a cookie but it is never shown anymore. very odd. according to mozilla, my program is up to date, latest version and it has been uninstalled and re-installed. but i had a whopper of a virus 4 months ago and it was taken care of here…. but i'm thinking maybe something could be corrupted that would not show up in the scans if it is linked to the mozilla program? i don't know. i really do not have a clue how computers work

edit again. : also, i go into view and try to zoom down to a smaller size and it never stays, it never remembers that either. I didn't originally use the view tab to make the text bigger, on the msn homepage, there used to be a wheel which gave you options and one of the options was to zoom in or out….. i zoomed in to make it bigger when i was having a lot of problems with my cataracts and now that wheel option is gone, the text is too large, i always have to adjust it every time i log on.
