My wireless quits working it seems like every time we leave the computer. It's D-Link, brand new(2 weeks), and we constantly have to reboot router AND computer to get it up and running again. The router always shows we are connected to the internet, but we aren't. No idea what's wrong, or why. Any help would be appreciated.
OS is XP SP3.
Hi sinnead,
This often happens, especially with Windows XP if you let the machine go into sleep or hibernate mode when you leave it for a while.
If you set your computer to remain "awake" when you leave it, or, alternatively completely shut it down, it may solve the problem fo you…
Try it for a while and let us know how you get on.

Hi sinnead,
when you are finished using your computer do a full shutdown (not a sleep/hibernate)
Its the sleep/hibernate that causes the issue (as a rule)

In other words- turn it off for the night? How is that "set to remain awake"? Sorry- I honestly am having trouble understanding which you are meaning.
To me, set to remain awake, means the desktop or screen saver would stay functional. But shutting it down would mean to simply turn it off until morning?
I am sorry if the information seems unclear. What I am recommending is that you fully shut down your computer once you have finished using it and not allow it to enter sleep or hibernation mode.
Please ensure you have your router communicating on a non congested wireless channel. You can go to the Google Play store and search for the Amped Wireless Wifi Analytics tool>download it>it will tell you the least congested channels to use as well as other tools.
You may also download the program called InSSIDer if you have a windows based laptop and it will also scan networks and provide the congestion data as well.
From there you would go to the following Router Control Panel area (general example-yours may vary):
More Settings>2.4Ghz Settings>Basic Settings>Select the channel that is the least congested>Apply
Do the same for the 5Ghz band as well.
