How do you restart the virtual machine

Windows 8 was shutdown before quitting the windows virtural machine. Windows 8 reboots correctly, but how do you restart windows virtual machine when after the wvpc green progress bar finishes, just a black virtual machine window displays; in this situation what are the next steps so the virtual machine can restart?

Oracle VirtualBox or VMWare?

With VirtualBox, you can right click on the Virtual Machine name then select Discard saved state, that should fix the problem. I don't use VMWare so have no idea how to fix that.
