Can anyone help me figure out how to get this file open that one of my sergeants emailed to me? It is in a XFDL format and I have been having trouble opening it for a week  now and I need to print out the document so that I can turn it in.

what os are you using and what have you tried so far?

must admit i've never ran across such a file personally so nothing immediately springs to mind but will try googling to see what i can find out about it for you.

seems you need lotus forms viewer or pureedge viewer to open such files.

i did try to use uudeview under linux to decode a xfdl file i downloaded from the first link i gave you into a zipped xml file and then extracted it to view.

this seemed to work but what i ended up with was
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

those are just the first few lines of each file and not exactly what i'd call a total success.

i did find this that may also help you :- http://www.e-publish...werdownload.asp

this is an old ubuntu link but seems to do what you want :- http://ubuntuforums....ad.php?t=880243

I use Lotus Forms/Pure edge viewer a lot at work and I am a 100% ubuntu only user. To get this app to work I did the following.

Step one:
Install wine

Step two:
Go to configure wine. Click the libraries tab. Add "riched20.dll" as native.

Step 3:
Install PureEdge viewer, I haven't got the newer Lotus Forms working yet.

You have to open the viewer first then click open and open the file you would like to edit.

To open a document on a thumb-drive or cd, goto my computer, then Z:, then media.

Good luck.

i think your best bet tho might be to ask your sergeant what to use and where to get it from.

Hi RoamanJ81,
If you follow the link Terry provided in post 2 then you will end up (if you persevere.... you will need to accept any warnings from your browser and continue) at this site:
https://akologin.us......age---/353688

If you are a member of the authorised class of users to access the site then click the accept button and proceed accordingly.... if you are not so authorised then it would be best to follow Terry's other advice and get the Sergeant to resend using a non army file format.
Regards

Congrats on writing a topic still valid in 2015!  Just wanted to weigh in on this.... user Terry1966, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for citing the Air Force article at http://www.e-publish...werdownload.asp!  I downloaded the " IBM Lotus Viewer 4.0.0 Fixpack 3" referenced therein, and **POOF!!** The program installed and worked like magic!  I opened my XFDL file, printed it, saved it as a PDF and went on my merry way. =D

For anyone else still hunting for an XFDL file solution, the download link I used is: http://www.e-publish...sViewer4003.exe. (Be patient, FormsViewer4003 is an 83.6 MB program, and it took a while for the download to start).

Cheers!
