Problems started when my router hub was changed by the provider and I had to re-install my HP Photosmart. After many attempts to re-install by following HP instructions I was receiving the same message that the system cannot find the file specified. I consulted many help forum-s without success. I scanned my Toshiba with Esset and after 10 hours received confirmation of no virus present. Today I found another advice which directed me to do the following:

If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:
1. Type %temp% in the run field
2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
3. Open folder Util
4. Open folder CCC
5. Run the uninstall_L4 (exe or Bat)
6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools
8. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
9. Download the full feature software and drivers
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar…;lc=en&…=
10. Run the download to reinstall the printer
After a faithful performance of these instructions my re-installation of HP failed again for the same error and I stared to have other problems:
- I could not open my page beyond entering my password, the initial page with my picture and password was frozen. I went to safe mode and the same happened. Finally I managed to go further and open the desktop to find that my cursor was highlighting as it moved and when stopped by right click it was freezing or doing other amazing things.
I shall be grateful for help in getting back my printer working.
Chris it seems you have more serious problems with your computer than the printer.

It should not take 10 hours to perform a virus scan, and your system should not be locking up as you indicated. I suspect your hard drive is going bad.

If you can start the system in safe mode, or regular mode. Open a command prompt window (start -> run -> type cmd.exe and press ENTER). Type chkdsk /r at the command prompt and press ENTER. Be patient while it runs. Warnings about bad clusters is a sure indicator of physical hard drive trouble or damage. More than a few of those messages and you probably have a failing hard drive and should just turn the computer off to prevent any further data loss.
