Mine does that when I first go to the screen and after about 15 seconds it pops up. If not, then go ahead and skip to the phone activation and go for an operator and explain what has happened and see what they can do.
Be prepared to tell them where you ordered the computer from and give any details about the purchase if there is no key available - it could be the computer distributor is providing unlicensed copies of the operating system. That does happen from time to time, and Microsoft is attuned to the fact that buyers have been taken in by some less than worthy distributors. Distributors often purchase a license to distribute say 1000 copies but use it on 2000 machines. Thus you could have 1000 machines that won't authenticate. In those cases Microsoft will work with users who have paid for a valid copy of the operating system but didn't receive one.
They may also need to access your machine remotely or need the same details of the MGADiag (be sure to tell them you have those available) to tell more about what's going on. It could be some other kind of glitch and it may be something simple that they know about and are able to give you a new key for. There are lots of possibilities but they will be better equipped to assist you on that.
Hi there, I just wanted to say thanks for your previous help. Just for conclusion's sake, I managed to fix this by contacting a member of the Seven Forums! (http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/276864-windows-7-error-copy-windows-not-genuine.html)
Thanks again!
I can see over there you were able to get it resolved and it was a result of older antivirus protection "leftovers" blocking your keys. I'm glad they were able to assist you Your MGADiag validated perfectly once that was taken care of! Congratulations!!!!
Did you want to go ahead and run a few scan to ensure you are malware free just to be on the safe side? Or would you like me to go ahead and close this out? I'd be happy to make sure there is nothing that we need to address from a malware or potentially unwanted program standpoint (PUP) that might be on the machine if you'd like. The choice is yours. I'm here to help if you want to check.
I'd be happy to work with you through a couple of scans. Now that you've removed one of the antivirus solutions, let's get another diagnostic scan.
HijackThis has largely been replaced by other tools. Since being acquired by TrendMicro, HijackThis has not been regularly updated. Many infections are now able to hide partly, or completely from a HijackThis scan. DDS includes all the scan locations of HijackThis and more.
Download and Run DDS by sUBs
We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:
Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.
DDS.com
DDS.pif
Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
Notepad will open with the results.
Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.
