I've been using Open DNS for a few years now with no problems until I moved and had Comcast install a wireless router. When I log onto my homepage I gety a pop up saying that Open DNS is not connected. But if I try and update from their server it will do the update. I've tried to troubleshoot it but nothing works.
Are you setting Open DNS in the router or on your computer? I use Google Public DNS and have it set in the router so any computer that connects uses it. That way I use DHCP for IP and DNS and never have to mess with them on each individual computer.
I don't have a clue as to how to set anything to run from the router. Open DNS is on the computer, so what do I need to do to get things working correctly?
Do this please:

Click on Start then Run or press Window key (next to left Ctrl key) +R and paste the following into the Run box, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted and the Command Prompt window will also close.

If you don't have a Run selection off the Start menu, see here: Enable Run Command on Windows 7 or Vista Start Menu

Is this a laptop or are you using a USB dongle on a desktop system?
How did you connect before? If wirelessly, then delete all existing Wireless connections and create a new one.
Here are the results from the command. Before I was using a broadband connection hard wired. This is a desktop computer with an Xfinity wireless router that was set up by a Comcast tech when I moved to my new address. I don't know what you are referring to when you mention a USB dongle from the desktop. Also do you still want me to delete all wireless connections and create a new one, if so how do I go about doing that? I'm sorry but I'm limited in my ability to work with computers. Rich for information: The malware logs indicate that P2P file sharing applications have been installed (Frostwire etc) presumably with access being granted through the firewall to enable effective usage. In addition the early logs indicate that 2 anti virus applications were running, resident in memory at the same time, but this may now have been fixed just leaving MSE active.
Everything looks okay there, including being able to ping yahoo.com which means the OpenDNS server is working okay. What is your home page? Can you post the exact error message or a screen shot of it?
My home page is msn.com. I've included the image of the Open DNS update and status screen, its in the attachment. I know the dns server works because it can update the dns data base but for whatever the reason I cannot log onto Open DNS and open my account. I've followed all the instructions from open dns and double checked all my settings and they are exactly as they should as far as I can tell. I've also uninstalled Frostwire.
I've used OpenDNS before but all I ever did was put their DNS Server addresses in my TCP/IP setup. I never installed any of their software as I saw no need to do so. From the screen shot you posted (should have blotted out your Email address) I don't see anything listed under IP Address. Should there be?
Ok I've found the problem. It looks like the router that Comcast provides is faulty. It is the Arris TG862 model and it does not allow access to the open Dns account instead it routes everything through the Comcast servers. I have to see if Comcast has a replacemnt router on hand at their store front if not I'll probably have to wait until they finally get them in. Thanks for your help, I hope that if this comes up in the future you can let others know about the problems with Comcast.
I'm no expert… but… my router has the ISP's DNS in it. Rather than pointing my computer to the router for it's DNS, I have OpenDNS set in my computer. My computer uses OpenDNS - just like it I told it to. Other computers on the network look to the router for DNS and therefore use the ISP's DNS that is set there.

The log you provided earlier showed that you have entered the OpenDNS IP addresses correctly in your computer. Please got here: http://www.opendns.com/support/article/64 and click on the test links. Please let us know the results.
TomK, I get the negative results from using the test links. This problem with the Arris tg862 is ongoing with Comcast. I found older forum threads from Open DNS that mention these same problems. I'm trying to get the link to those threads.

Please go here to see that this is something that Comcast has just not corrected. It is actually their device that is causing the problem. I have to go to
Comcast Monday and get something else corrected and will see if they will also correct this. I will get back to you ASAP once I get their response.
Wow. I was unaware that some ISP's block access to other DNS servers. As I said… there is a whole lot I don't know. I only know what works for me. :P Good luck with Comcast.
