Hello, Okay so I've got a problem with my notebook, it's a gateway NV59 series …So the other day I was just leisurely going through my documents on my computer when it suddenly, blue screened and turned off. So now when it boots up it stops at a black screen where it proceeds to tell me "OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND"… So I figure loose hard-disk. Thus it is not so. So I tried to Re-Install the OS, put the disk in, looks good, half-way there then —– 0 Unallocated Disk Space, and I can't move on from there. ANY suggestions!?
Hi spore,
Welcome to the WTT forums. Sorry to hear of the laptop problem.
There could be a number of different explanations for the problems you have experienced, so here's the steps I recommend in order of priority:
1 First check your back up, make sure its got everything in it that's important to you, and check that its reproducible. (you will need a good working machine to do this)
2 next check your last (or favourite) disc image, make sure that your bootable CD etc works Ok. so you can access your disc image.
3 Check to see if you made any Recovery discs

Once you are satisfied that all is well with steps 1 and 2 and 3 you can move on to seeing if the hard drive has failed
go here:

download the hard drive manufacturer's disc checking/repair utility, follow the instructions for burning the CD and run the tests. Start with the short test, if this is Ok then do the full ( long test) this will take some time so patience is required!…..there is no real need to run the acoustic test…..
Let us know if your hard drive passes or is failed.
Post back if you need more information on any of this.
