hello.. so i got a little problem with my laptop.. so last night, i was just doing my usual stuffs (net-surfing, watching my saved movies etc) and after im done, i properly turned my laptop off… this morning though, when i tried to open it again, a CHCKDSK appeared…i skipped it and all seem to go normal until an alert popped-up sayin that "windows has encountered a critical problem. log off will automatically start after a minute" .. it actually restarted and CHCKDSK appeared once again. so i let it scan this time..it apparently has 3 stages of scanning process..so anyway it is still yet at the first stage at like 9 percent and it says windows fininsh scanning then under it reads "unable to set CHCKDSK to once flag" or something like that.. then it would restart again and the CHCKDSK would appear again and the same thing would happen again..i just let it do its thing..but ist like 5 hours has already passed and it is still on that constant loop… im virtually unknowledgeable in fixing computers or troubleshooting and stuff so i really have no idea what to do. So can you help me? I would really really really really appreciate it if you could…i need my laptop as soon as possible since i've got a lot of papers to write….so any ideas how to fix it?..Thank you so much!
Hi Entralli Roff, and welcome to the WTT forums.
Sorry to hear about the chkdsk issue with your computer…. it sounds as though you could have a problem with your hard drive that will need the manufacturers disc checking utility to diagnose properly.

However in the meantime please see the tutorial provided by Ztruker here:

See how you get on with this… as it may well do the trick for you……. post back if you need a link to the manufacturers disc checking repair utility.

Paws, I think in order for this poster to perform the instructions you linked they would have to first be able to get to a command prompt. Because the system will not boot, I think we need to indicate that they should use the "Repair Your Computer" option by tapping F8 shortly after turning the computer on. Once the windows recovery system comes up, it will attempt a startup repair, as well as give other options such as "Command Prompt" where the poster can use the instructions provided in the link from Ztruker.
