Tivo is not strictly speaking a "protected format", though Tivo devices do recognize various levels of protection and DRM protection that may be attached to the media from the publisher/broadcaster.
You state that you already have the Tivo to go software installed on a laptop. For use of that software you may be best advised to seek support via the TIVO website:

As to suggesting products that convert or work-around terms of use (broadcasters may time-limit your use of some programing) or products that attempt to remove DRM and other protective coding, WTT Forums does not support products that violate the contractual and/or legal property rights of authors, performers, publishers and broadcasters.
No matter how much we may think that seeing it on TV or elsewhere, implies that the experience "belongs" to us for keeps, the relationship you have with your satellite or cable provider and terms of use required in your agreement to accept services may often impose some annoying restrictions.
That's what you agreed to when you subscribed with them.
If you go to a Theatre to watch a Movie, you cannot take a copy of the movie with you in your pocket when it is over.
You can take your left-over popcorn, but the movie and rights to the movie stays with the Theatre.
You'd have to buy another ticket to watch it again.
That's sometimes the case with Broadcast media as well.
Check with your provider for specifics.
I'm going to CLOSE this topic, because I am confident that there are many folks who would happily recommend utilities and programs designed to circumvent copyright privacy protection.
You can inquire with your TiVO maker, with your broadcast service provider, or if you wish you can search for handy programs on the internet.
However, WTT will not interferre with the terms of your broadaster, nor will we support free or paid product that do.
Best Regards
