Hello, I've just changed my internet from wireless to wired using a D-Link 2780 modem connected to a gigabyte SP2612R Network Adapter.since then I have had nothing but problems. Youtube will not play videos - it's just the rotating timer circle all the time. IE 8 opens to a Diagnose Connection Problem even though connection is good - if I then search anywhere there's no problem. Various Websites give me a 'Diagnose Connection Error' usually https sites. I've run a Malawarebytes scan which found one issue which was fixed. But still the same annoying issues. I using Windows XP and I connect with TALKTALK. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank You David
Hi gtbear, sorry to hear of the connections problems you are experiencing….. We need some more information from you if we are to assist you…. 1 Look in Device Manager for your network adapter ( wired) any yellow or Red markers against it? 2 Did you install the drivers for the Network adapter card (wired)..? 3 If you right click and check Properties, is it working OK? 4 Have you "Enabled" your wired Network adapter card…(.in Network Connections from Control Panel?) 5 Are you using or trying to use a proxy server or a VPN? 6 Have you enabled DHCP…? 7 Can you connect wirelessly? (as you did before) you will need to enable your wireless Network Adapter card for this. 8 Have you tried a different Ethernet cable twixt your modem/router ( DLInk) and the Ethernet port on the back of your computer? 9 there should be a telltale light coming from the Ethernet port on your computer…what colour is is? 10 Please do the following: Make sure your wired connection is enabled Click on Start Click on Run in the white box please copy and paste (highlight and the Ctrl+c) for Copy and Ctrl+v for paste, the following: cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping bbc.co.uk >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt" please be sure to use copy (Ctrl+c) and paste (Ctrl+v) as you must get the syntax absolutely correct( don't miss out the closing quote marks) Click on Ok Wait for a brief moment or two and notepad will open with the report that I need. Please copy and past this output into your reply together with the answers to the above If you need any clarification just ask. Regards paws

Hi David, I think the problems may be associated with your use of a proxy, so as a first step please do the following: 1 Click start. 2 Click on Control Panel 3 Click on Internet Options 4 Click on the "Connections" tab 5 Click on LAN settings 6 Make sure all boxes are completely cleared 7 Ok your way out. Reboot your machine and then test the wired connection by trying to connect to the Internet 8 Please then run the command again as you did before to send me a fresh Windows IP config report. Regards paws
Hi Paws - Showing my ignorance now, I saw the question VPN or Proxy and I knew I wasn't on VPN so I presumed Proxy. But No I'm not on a proxy setting. Sorry for time wating. David
Hi David
It looks like your settings are really messed up…. :(
You have 7 connections….. any reason for that?

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 7:

You also seem to have a Wins proxy enabled….. and this is not normal or required for a conventional private home computer network….It is usually set up by editing the Registry or by the software used by a previous ISP that has not been removed correctly…..
Some more work for you I'm afraid…
1 Is this computer used for business?
2 Has anyone, either now, or in the distant past used it to tunnel into a works or other network?
3 Please create a System Restore Point ( Start>All Programs>Accessories> System Tools> System Restore
4 Please go here to download Erunt to back up your Registry;
http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/
Download Erunt from the auhuma.org site, install it and run the back up…it is very quick
5 Please open Regedit (Start>Run> type in the white box
regedit
click Ok
please with great care navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters\EnableProxy
don't alter anything….. just tell me if the value is set to 2 or 1 or 0
6 Note if you are not happy using the Registry in this way, don't do the above regedit, but just move to step 7 (in any event
I still need you to do step 7 please
7 using your Talk talk modem/router set up CD install it all agian following all the directions provided……and when you have done please reboot your computer and then
8 rerun the Win ip config report and post me the output
Regards
paws
Hi Paws, The 7 Connections are Ipods and Laptops and PS3, so it's normal activity. Yes I have tried to set up a VPN for work purposes but was unable to get it going. Read somewhere that XP Medis edition didn't support VPN. I have a laptop for work which I connect wirelessly to this modem. The Registry Value is 2. Is that Good? Bad? Just about to reboot - back soon
Hi David Ok I understand, The value should be set to 0 can you do that please then exit the registry and send me a fresh Win Ip config report (setting the value to 0 should remove the Wins proxy) When you have finsihed we can go on to look at all the other settings! Regards paws

Run the talk talk set up Cd just as if you were installing the router and everythingelse from from scratch reboot , test your Internet and send an up to date Win Ip config report regards paws
