Hello! I was unfortunate enough to get infested with Smart Fortress 2012 last night. Luckily, I have a second computer and quickly searched for any information about this program as computer one was locked by SM2012. After having read several threads about removal, I downloaded Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to my second computer and used a memory stick to copy the Chameleon to the infected one. Initially this seemed to work. The infected files were found and quarantined. Afterwards I ran a full system scan with Avast! to see if it would pick up anything suspicious. Avast told me that some files could not be reached as they where in locked archives and said I should do a scan on restart. I did this but Avast did not find anything. Today I have scanned my computer several times with the Anti-Malware and Avast but nothing is found. It does seem that it is not completely removed. As soon as I connect to the internet Avast tells me that it has blocked malicious urls even though I have no browser open. After further reading on this and other forums I quickly understood that this problem is more complicated than what my mediocre computer skills can deal with. I signed up here hoping to get some help from some kind soul. I have followed the instructions in the stickied post and downloaded and ran the DDS on the infected computer. Here are the results copied from the DDS.txt: . would have the time to help me out here. I am a student and I have a very important hand-in next Monday and I am already behind schedule. I am really afraid to use the computer now as I do not want to make the problem any bigger. Thanks in advance! Luhr

**In any case where you happen to be busy or unable to give us a reply, we would be grateful if you keep us informed in advance and we will be more than happy to wait. Failure to do so we will have your thread closed in THREE(3) days. :)

Hello there, Luhr

:welcome:

I'm Conspire, I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Read the entire procedure
  • It is important to perform ALL actions in sequence.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with me till you're given the all clear.
  • Remember, absence of symptoms does not mean the infection is all gone.
  • Don't attempt to clean your computer with any tools other than the ones I ask you to use during the cleanup process.

IMPORTANT NOTE : Please do not delete anything unless instructed to. Remember to backup all your important data(if possible) before moving on.

—————————————————————————————————

Why don't you use the other computer to work on your assignment? It wouldn't be good to delay any longer and this process that we are about to go through will take a lot of time which I cannot guarantee how soon we can finish this.

—————————————————————————————————

It appears you didn't attach the second dds log, Attach.txt, to your initial post.

Go to Start > Run and copy/paste the following into the Run box and click OK:

%temp%\Attach.txt

A text file should open. Please attach that file to your next reply.

—————————————————————————————————

Also let's check for rootkits.

[external image: Posted Image]
  • Please download GMER from one of the following locations, and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zip Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop (applicable only to Zip mirror) .
  • Double click [external image: Posted Image] or [external image: Posted Image] on your desktop.
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan…click on NO.
    [external image: Posted Image]

    [external image: Posted Image]
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following …
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in your reply.
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<— ROOKIT" entries

On your next reply please post :
DDS attach log
GMER log

Please STOP and let me know if you have any problems in performing with the steps above or any questions you may have.

Good Day!
Thank you for the answer! Unfortunately, I have been very busy the last days and will continue to be for the next week. The computer is working, but every time I turn on the wireless network Avast! tells me that it has blocked malicious web sites. The other computer is too slow to handle the programs I need to use, hence the initial urgency. I have decided to let it wait until the work has been done. As the university wont give me an extension just because of software issues and time is running out! Would it be possible to get back to this in about a weeks time? Again, thank you! Luhr
