I accidently hit "mail recipient" when trtansfering some documents. I have no idea what this is as I have never used it before. It was in the drop down box when I hit "send to". I am concerned because there was some sensitive material. I don't know if anything was sent and if so to who and how?

Hi Katrina, and welcome to the WTT forums, Sorry to hear about the problem with "send to" Here's a way to check what has happened: 1 If you use Microsoft Office Outlook as your email client and you inadvertantly press "send to" on the drop down menu when you right click on a document then it should open a window in MSO Outlook so that you can adress the email to the recipient and add a message etc. So if you didn't enter a recipient you should be OK.....so move on to the next step 2 To check what has actually been sent ( if anything) look in your "Sent Items" folder...this should give you a list and a copy of every email you have sent... 3 Sometimes it best to file the sent emails in order so that the last to be sent is at the top of the list...click on the date header column until the files are in the correct order. Now have a good look to see if your sensitive doc has actually been sent.... All sensitive docs should be pasword protected...but sometimes folks don;t do this....but its a good idea. Paws, Thank you so much for the information. I would however, for my own knowledge like to know what Mail recipient is, in the drop down list when I'm moving a file. I generally send to my flashdrive and don't use the others on the list (fax, mail recipient, documents, blue something and a couple of others.

Hi Katrina, When you right click on a file (for example a document or photo in your My Documents or Pictures folder ) a sub menu should open,and amongst the items in the "Send To" menu there will be an item called "Mail Recipient" If you click on Mail Recipient then your email client, MSO Outlook will open a new email and insert the file you right clicked on as an attachment..... However the recipient will be left blank so that you can choose the person you want to send it to, and also the message will be left blank so you can type in a message to them. In order to send the email with the file attached you will need to at least complete the recipients details ( email address) and click on "Send" There are quite a few steps involved in this so its difficult to send a file to someone by mistake... I hope you find that reassuring This is just one way that Windows lets you send a file by email ...there are other ways of doing it but this is just one way. Regards paws

Thank you so very very much. I feel so much better. I am writing a book about a very sensitive topic and need to be very careful what gets sent out. Most of the stuff only goes to the person who is helping me. I guess I just need to be more careful. Your explanations are very clear and soooo helpful, I can't thank you enough. katrina
