Hi guys, I live in the north west of Wales and I am 2.5 miles from my telephone exchange. My internet speed is dismal, to say the least, and my ISP has told me to check my netstat results . I was told that if there are more than 10 results my internet speed would be slow. Is it possible to remove the results I no longer use to help with my broadband speed?
Hi, I dont think it will help with Internet speed but using Ctrl+C should do the trick…. If you go here: www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk you can check your speed, report back with your upload/download speeds Regards paws.
My thoughts as well. Did the speed check and it turned up I.52 Mb/s upload and 0.122Mb/s. I tried the Ctrl+c and could not find how to do it. Thanks for the advice.
Ho Hum! something wrong with those figures…. Did you mean that you are getting a download speed of 1.5 Mbps? and an upload of 0.122Mbps? 1 Are you connecting your router directly into the test socket (behind the faceplate of your BT master socket?) 2 Have you tried fitting brand new filter/splitters to every Bt socket in the house (including one used for Sky (if applicable?) 3 Have you checked with neighbours or other folks in your location to see what sort of speed they are getting? 4 Have you had your ISP do a line test? 5 Phone your ISP tell them you are thinking of taking out a broadband subscription with them but are wondering what sort of speed they would provide…give them your postcode and tel no….. they will probably quote you some astronomically fast speed…. ask them to check to make really sure….. then you can tell them you are actually with them and the actual speed is a lot less and you would like the faster speed that they say is available to new customers….. it might work… :) Good luck Regards paws
Hi Paws,

All things you have mentioned have been done at least 10 times and all the ISP says to me is that my line speed is capable of 3,5Mb/s and that there is something amiss with my PC and came up with this netstat thing as an excuse, I think, to throw the onus on to me, and my equipment.

I am with Sky at the moment and looking at the figures locally it is well up there with the rest, better in a lot of cases.
All the ISP 's tell you the max figure and when I cannot get it it is always down to me and my installation.
My guess it is the span across the road that needs replacing as I had the same thing at my previous address and got much better speed when the wire was changed.
I have suggested this several times and get told there is nothing wrong with it (means it will cost them money they won't spend).

The question on the netstat removal was a last ditch attempt at getting better speeds.

I usually use http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ to do my speed tests. Did some yesterday and this morning and the results are shown below. Dismal at best, and you can see the variation I get.

Today 09:24 1069 kbps (134kB/s) 22 kbps (2.75kB/s)
Yesterday 16:10 246 kbps (30.8kB/s) 172 kbps (21.5kB/s)
Yesterday 12:12 2695 kbps (337kB/s) 202 kbps (25.3kB/s)

Thanks again for the help and advice but it is a case of 'been there, done that' I'm afraid.
If your ISP are quoting up to 3.5 Mbps and you are able to get (sometimes!) 1.5 Mbps then you are doing well! but as you say the other figures are dismal…. Looks like you'll need to move house…. next door to the Telephone Exchange…might suit…. Regards paws PS if its any consolation I struggle currently to get 1.2 Mbps(dl) and I'm only 19 miles from London Bridge…..
Yes Paws you are right. I have just got to suck it up and get on with it. I have a friend who lives in Widnes in Cheshire and he is getting 20Mb/s speed. How unfair is that? Thanks for your advice. Be happy and well. Del.
