Hi stevenmcs and welcome to WhatTheTech forums!
I'm Sunyata and I will be helping you with your computer problems.

Please be advised, as I am still in training, all my replies to you will be checked for accuracy by one of our experts before I post them. This is to ensure that I am giving you the best possible advice. This may cause a delay, but I will do my very best to keep it as short as possible.

Please read the following guidelines which will help to make cleaning your machine easier:

  • Malware logs are often lengthy and can take a lot of time to research and interpret. Please be patient while I review your logs.
  • The fixes I will give you are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please make sure to carefully read any instructions posted. If you're not sure, please stop and ask!
  • Please stay with this thread until I tell you your machine appears to be clean. Absence of symptoms does not necessarily mean that all malware is gone.
  • PLEASE DO NOT install/uninstall any programs unless asked to.
  • PLEASE DO NOT run any malware scans other than those requested.
  • Please reply within 3 days. If you do not reply within this period I will post a reminder but topics with no reply in 4 days will be closed!
  • I will reply back shortly with instructions

  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.txt and Extras.txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply. You may need two posts to fit them all in.

Next,

Please download aswMBR to your desktop.

  • Double click the aswMBR icon to run it.

Vista and Windows 7 users right click the icon and choose "Run as administrator".

  • When asked if you want to download Avast's virus definitions please select Yes.
  • Click the Scan button to start scan.
  • When it finishes, press the save log button, save the logfile to your desktop and post its contents in your next reply.

Hello stevenmcs

First,

Please read through these instructions to familarize yourself with what to expect when this tool runs

Please download ComboFix from one of the following locations:

  • LINK 1
  • LINK 2
**IMPORTANT! Save ComboFix to your Desktop. Read the following thoroughly
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link :How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Double click on 'ComboFix.exe' & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message box:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on 'Yes', to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it will produce a log for you.
Please include the contents of C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.
3. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making Internet Explorer the default browser.
4. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please let me know.
5. ComboFix disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before ComboFix completes its run. If ComboFix runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

In your next reply please post the log created by ComboFix. :)

Next,

Please read carefully and follow these steps.

  • Download TDSSKiller and save it to your Desktop.
  • Extract its contents to your desktop.
  • Once extracted, open the TDSSKiller folder and doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image)

🖼Click to load external image (Posted Image)

  • If no reboot is required, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory, (usually C:\ folder) in the form of "TDSSKiller.[Version]_[Date]_[Time]_log.txt".

Well it seems to have worked. It runs much faster and Norton hasn't alerted me at least before I went home. There were some problems starting Combofix it kept having trouble reading extracion files but I clicked retry and it installed. (the computer was very slow it took about 10 minutes to get apps for control panel to show up.) The TDSSKiller program kept telling me AVG and Lavasoft was active. The first application that Norton removed was "XP Security 2012 Trial" (Obviously fake nothing real finds that many treats that fast) Before that I tried to run Lavasoft and AVG but they seemed to be lanching the problem program. So I deleted all of the AVG files I could find before installing Norton Since TDSSKiller kept telling me they were active and AVG wasn't show in add remove programs. I uninstalled Lavasoft and rebooted. I got the same message I used regedit to remove all referances with AVG that werent something else like AVGeneral and Avg. still it said it was active so I used MSConfig and disabled all startup programs and a couple of system referances. It still said they were active but I must have clicked the wrong thing and it continued on and ran without problems and now it seems fine. I re-enabled all I had stoped with MSConfig Thanks

How is the machine running now? Any issues?
It's not my computer but it was running really good for the few minutes before I left. He was booking a flight on his other computer when I was there but I'm not sure when. I had car trouble on the way home and depending on what caused it it maybe awhile before I get back there.
Hello stevenmcs I'm going to ask that this thread be closed. If you get back to working on this machine again, you can always have the thread re-opened.
