Hello I have been imaging my system every week b/c it is ez + I am not techy. It would make more sense to do incremental backups every ?3 weeks and a full every ?4th. Besides clicking incremental instead of full, is there much else to remember?. I usually validate. If you need to get a file or recover the system, how do you "assemble" the backups which were incremental -if you do? Any help appreciated. Peter
I've not done much with Acronis but I have used many other backup solutions over the years and they all work pretty much the same.

How often you do backups depends on how you use your computer. If daily you modify and/or add new important documents then you may need to do daily backups. If you rarely modify or add new important documents, then monthly or longer intervals may be good enough. As more and more work is done "on-line", frequent local backups are becoming less important. But the main point is, only you can determine the backup cycle.

When you restore a backup that include incrementals, the backup program will prompt you to restore from the last full, then prompt you for each of the incrementals since the last full backup.
That is a good explanation especially about technology,i.e., cloud advancing and changing needs. I was concerned on wear and tear about a full weekly backup. If it is not to wearing, a weekly full backup is what I would prefer continuing but if it is wearing on the drives and pcs, a monthly one would suffice. I do keep my sensitive data on two seperate flash drives. When one fails, I replace both. I guess I have to think about the wear factor with 12 backups vs 52. Thanx again Peter
I would not worry about wear and tear. Computers and hard drives are designed for 24/7/365 operation. And if your drive does "wear out", well, you will have a current backup.
I use Acronis True Image Home 2010. I do nightly backups to 4 "weekly" sets. This is all controlled via a little add-on called Chain2Gen:

Howto do backup generations (GFS-Grandfather,Father,Son) with Acronis TI. (chain2gen)

I have Acronis setup to do incremental backups and Chain2Gen handles the rotation between Set1, Set2, Set3 and Set4. I have each setup to hold 7 backups (1 weeks worth). The first backup in each set will be a full backup because there is nothing there, Acronis handles this automatically.

Set1 is always has this weeks data. Set2, Set3 and Set4 hold the previous weeks data.

It's fully automated and I never have to look at it other than to check the logs once in a while to make sure everything is working correctly.

You do do the same but set it up for 2 sets and have each set hold 4 weekly backups or however you want it to work.

Just a suggestion.
