Philips 32PFL5332D/37 HD LCD TV (2007)

Long shot but here goes. I have had this HD LCD for about a year. (used from my uncle who bought new in 07 or 08 he upgraded to a 3d) Anyway… at any given time the tv will turn on by itself or turn off by itself and display the "latest firmware update screen" You cannot navigate to anything else. I have tried to reinstall the firmware from the philips website and when I insert the usb stick with the autorun.upg the tv will not take it. (it will not recognize the file it just keeps trying to read. It will try and read forever if you let it. I have made sure it is in the root dirctory, etc.) I have also tried breaking the file down without the autorun.upg nothing works. If you unplug the tv and let it sit for a while it work again but who knows for how long before it shows the same firmware update screen. Philips is no help at all. I hope I didn't break any rules for posting here. Here is a pic of the screen I get. It doesn't make for a happening Saturday night Any ideas?

The TV is probably experiencing a hardware issue. But, the problem may be fixed by a firmware upgrade. Make sure you re-format your USB drive as FAT and not NTFS. Many of the drives might be NTFS. Make sure the drive is empty, reformat it FAT, place the autorun.upg file on the flashdrive (make sure it is decompressed out of the .zip file - don't put the .zip file on the drive), turn the TV off, plug in the flashdrive, turn the TV on and it should start the update procedure. When done, remove the USB drive, turn off the TV, and turn it back on. Most likely your firmware update does not work because your flashdrive is formatted NTFS. Other than that, its probably a hardware problem - living with it will be the best thing until you are ready to buy new.
