IE and AVG 2011 problems

The problem continues with IE shutting down and an error in AVG. I have since deleted then updated JAVA.

ESET has detected an infected system restore point. Lets take care of that now:

• Please create a new System Restore point
  
  
  
  • Click on "Start" > "All Programs" > "Accessories" > "System tools" > "System Restore".
  • In the dialogue box that appears select "Create a Restore Point".
  • Click "Next".
  • Enter a name
  • e.g. Todays date.
  • Click "Create".
• Please purge the old System Restore points from your system
  
  
  
  • Malware can sometimes hide in the old System Restore points saved on your computer.
  • Follow the steps below to flush the old Restore Points from your system.
  • Click on "Start" > "All Programs" > "Accessories" > "System tools" > "Disk Cleanup".
  • In the drop down box that appears, select your main drive e.g. "C".
  • Click on "OK".
  • Your system will perform a quick calculation and then display a dialogue box containing various tabs.
  • Select the "More Options" tab.
  • At the bottom of this tab, there will be a system restore box with a "Cleanup" button.
  • click on the "Cleanup" button, accept the warning and select "OK".
  
  

  PC starting and running very slow

  Lets see if the followng can help with the system speed issues:
  
  
• Defragment your hard drive
  
  
  
  • Download and run Auslogics Disc Defragmenter.

  • You may wish to try StartupLite. Simply download this tool to your desktop and run it.
  • It will explain any optional auto-start programs on your system, and offer the option to stop these programs from starting at startup.
  • This will result in fewer programs running when you boot your system, and should improve performance.

So far, so good. I have flushed all restore points and defraged the hard drive. IE and AVG seem to be playing nice together for now, no shut- downs with either today. I’ll keep an eye for it for a few days. My motherboard can support another 1G memory. I will pick-up one tomorrow and clean the inside of the machine at that time. I’ll keep you posted after the memory install.

Hi JonTom I think the machine is as good as its going to get. No more signs of infection, but I believe my hard drive is going south. Still takes 3 1/2 minutes to boot, no sign of improvement there. I have backed-up all my personal files to external hard drive just in case. Unless you want a look at something more, let's go ahead with tool removal.

That is definitely the right thing to do

• Please Uninstall Combofix
  
  
  
  • Click on "Start" and then on "Run".
  • Now type combofix /uninstall in the run box and click "OK". Please note the space between the "x" and the "/Uninstall", it needs to be there.
  
  
• Removal of Tools
  
  
  
  • You no longer need DDS or GMER. Please delete them from your machine.
