Hello. My PC was recently hit by the System Repair virus and I was able to correct the problem (I think). However, since that time my computer has been running much slower than usual…for example, both IE and Chrome take forever to start and seem extremely sluggish. I've also noticed other issues, such as Abobe Reader not working properly. I've posted a Hijack This log below in hopes that someone will be able to offer some suggestions. Hi michael81, welcome to the forum.

To make cleaning this machine easier

Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
Please do not run any scans other than those requested
Please follow all instructions in the order posted
All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
Please stay with this thread until given the All Clear. A absence of symptoms does not mean a clean machine.

*Important: Do not use any temporary file removers untill given the go ahead.*

Let's get a better log at this machine.

Download aswMBR.exe to your desktop.

Double click the aswMBR.exe to run it. If asked to download Avast's database please do so.

Click the "Scan" button to start scan

On completion of the scan click save log, save it to your desktop and post in your next reply

There shall also be a file on your desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) folder. Please attach that zipped file in your next reply.

Next

Download OTL to your desktop.

Right click on OTL.exe and click "Run as Administrator" to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output

Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Right click on ComboFix.exe, click Run as Administrator & follow the prompts.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. If after running combofix you recieve an message "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion" or similar reboot the computer.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Please post back with the combofix log.

I ran Combofix but it didn't create a log. Also, when I tried to open my browser Combofix closed it and tried to run again. It appeared to start but didn't appear to finish a new scan.

Hi michael81,

Next

Right click on OTL.exe and click "Run as Administrator" to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output
Check the box beside scan all users
Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open a notepad window, OTL.Txt, no Extras.Txt.

Here's the new OTL log. By the way, I forgot to disable Microsoft Security Essentials before running the OTL scan and a message from MSE popped up during the scan indicating it was removing some detected threats. They're listed in the MSE history as TrojanSpy:Win32/Ursnif, Exploit:Java/CVE-2013-0422, Exploit:Java/CVE-2013-0422.C, TrojanSpy:Win32/Ursnif.gen!M (multiple occurences). There are in the MSE quarantine but I have not removed them yet. The machine seems to be running a little smoother although Google Chrome and Abobe Reader have refused to start a couple of times. On restart, the machine takes an extremely long time to "get up to speed" - it may be 10 or 15 minutes before it runs somewhat smoothly. I also had Windows Explorer crash on me a couple of times today.

Hi michael81,

Do you have a list or the MSE log of what it removed?

Next, Right click on OTL.exe and chose Run as Administrator to run it

Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
Do Not copy the word CODE
please note the fix starts with the :

Hi michael81,

Those are what the detections are. The file name is what we need to know. Is there a file name listed?

There are some files that were present in the earlier log but don't seem to be present now. Either MSE removed them or combofix did during the first attempted run.

Please navigate to this folder, C:\Qoobox and locate this file ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt .

Please post it's contents.
