ok, this goes back i think to recent problem i was just here about what? just a week ago???….. you guys sent me over to the virus people just to make sure it wasn't a virus…..i posted a dds log over there, i guess nothing turned up and they suggested i go back over here to you because they mentioned overheating, i said it seemed like the computer always ran hot…. but i get tired of always bothering everyone here….so instead i wrote an email to the website asking for a 'hard" address, a real one i could send some money to because i don't do online money things like paypal or buying stuff on ebay…so i never even got a reply to my email….. whatever… ANYWAY…… so same thing has happened…. it just stopped running, it froze. so i went into control panel and went to system restore…. and it too froze while it was doing its thing….and even tho it said you couldn't or shouldn'g cancel…hello….it was like 20 minutes and nothing was happening….. and control alt delete won't work, so i just shut it down……tried again this time in safe mode, i forget all i did…, but nothing worked…. so i go away for two days…. the message i get on system restore failure is: system restore did not complete successfully your computer system files and memory were not changed. DETAILS: Sys. Restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point. source: %system root%registration destination: com plus staging so now i try again, and it gives me different options, there is a windows memory option…so i try that one…and IT WORKS!!!!!!! Everything is working fine, I play a game of spider solitaire while waiting for my internet connection to boot up…. i hit on the mozilla firefox icon and it dies again…freezes
Hello compudodo,

We're a completely voluntary service / forum, so please don't feel like you're bothering or inconveniencing us. Also, thank you for trying to donate some money, but unfortunately I think we only accept Paypal donations at the moment.

As for your laptop, it's a bit of a tricky one. You said in your previous topic that you weren't comfortable opening up the laptop chassis and having a good clean out.

Unfortunately, at the moment, dust build up and overheating seems to be the most likely cause.

Doing a Google search for "PC Home Repair Virginia" brings up quite a few companies :
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=home+pc+repair+virginia

Most of them do home visits, so it may be worth calling around for a few quotes. They may even have data backup services or general Windows troubleshooting services. If you want to keep it cheap just ask them to do a service on the laptop.

Once we know that the laptop is no longer a fire risk, we can help you with trying to fix possible driver errors / conflicts, system corruption or whatever else may be causing the problems.

Nahumi
most listed were in northern VA…..well over 3 hours away….something tells me i'm outside their service area…..i called two places in Virginia Beach….same thing…….they will not drive up here it's 170 miles roundtrip. so guess close this thread….i no longer can use this laptop. thank you for your time.
You could try getting a can of compressed air and blowing it in through the vents, especially the ones near the fan and heat sink (radiator actually). Not the optimum way to clean out a laptop but it can help and may get it clean enough that it will stay cool enough to operate.
