Was told to come over here to make sure my computer problem isn't related to another virus. it froze up in the middle of doing a jigsaw puzzle on line…. everything just stopped working…. actually i think it was acting a bit sporadic before it finally just stopped totally responding, but i just chalked it up to my internet connection, which had been going on and off all day due to some atmospheric conditions, seems every time the wind blows around here I get poor internet connections. I couldn't shut it down with control alt delete…so had to just shut it off…started up again and it went back to the jigsaw puzzle page, but froze again….again couldn't use control alt delete…. so i left it. next day I started it up again in safe mode and tried system restore, which didn't work….then i went over to the windows forum and they sent me here. i am typing this up on my regular desktop computer….. the problem is with my laptop and since system restore it won't do anything. i can't open any program or do anything, so i can't post an OTL log for you. It's a Lenovo G555 and it is just over one year old now, exactly 13 months and two weeks old. no i haven't cleaned it or anything, am not going to open the case, doubt i could get it open anyway and i don't live anywhere near civilzation so can't just drop it off at staples as the nearest staples is in the next state, about 70 miles away or down across the bay, about 75 to 80 miles away. The computer still starts up, but as soon as you click on anything, a game, the control panel, internet explorer, it freezes. They told me you are very busy over here lately, so i'll wait til i hear back from you. thanks alot.

Can you boot to safemode and see if things are working ?

To Enter Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly,
this will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to Safemode with Networking
  • Then press the Enter Key on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

  • Double click the tool to run it.
  • A black Screen will open, just read the contents and do nothing.
  • When the tool finishes, it will open 2 reports, DDS.txt and attach.txt
  • Copy/Paste the contents of 'DDS.txt' into your post.
  • 'attach.txt' should be zipped using Windows native zip utility and attached to your post. Compress and uncompress files (zip files)

ok here's thescoop. when i loggedinto safe mode, abox popped up sayingmy computer systemhad beenrestored toJuly10,,,,,,, and exceptfor the space bar i broke, it seemsto be ok now. guess i hadto reboot for it to go into effect
Are you having any problems that you feel are related to malware, like unwanted security alerts, pop up windows or browser redirects ?
nope seems fine. when i started it up just now, it shutitself off for some reason, i restarted it and it's not doing anything else weird
i have a side venton my laptop and always it has run hot….hot air always and forever has been streamingout of it….it's only been on now for about 10 minutes and it's already really hot
Sounds like a fan may not be working, look at the vents, are they clogged up. You may have to take it to a local computer shop and have it repaired . Laptops should always be used on a flat surface with no blocking of the air vents.
ken, i live way way way away from civilization…. the 160 mile round trip to a staples or computer shop just isn't doable as far as repair cost, gas cost and the $20 bridge toll to and back ….. but i'm sure i can get a can of compressed air at our hardware store. thanks for your help here, i truly appreciate it, as always, you guys are wonderful blessings, candice
