To begin, recently we had an issue with a java updater file. I did not recognize the file itself, and quickly preformed a search to verify the program.
While searching, I found mixed results, some saying it was simply a Java updater file, others saying that it was highly infectious IF it was located in my system32 folder, and not the java folder itself. Turns out, Jucheck.exe was indeed located in the System32 folder, thus beginning my hunt to discover the truth.

We ran a series of scans, and after much work, everything seemed to be legit. Here is the previous thread dealing with that situation. http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?sh…mp;#entry738641

The main issue that I am concerned about now, is possibly not viral related, but everytime he goes to startup his computer since our quest to solve the Jucheck issue it can take anywhere from 3-7+ minutes to simply turn the computer on and start it up. My first assumption would be to go into the startup programs menu and disable any that are not vital to the initial start-up of the computer. However, just now while in the process of doing so, the computer completely froze up, allowing me to do nothing at all for about 4 minutes. After that, everything I had tried to do just come all at once, like letting a kink out of a waterhose.

Also, his anti-virus program, McAfee, somehow it kept disabling itself, so I uninstalled that and instead installed Avast! and am currently running a full system scan on it.

Whatever information you guys may be able to give me surely would put me in a better place then I stand now! Thanks so much for your time and consideration.
Hello Ferguson,

Sorry to hear you're having problems.

I think the best thing to do is to run a PC Pitstop scan. It's free and lets us get a broad overview of your system's performance :

Please use IE for the next steps. Chrome or Firefox aren't supported unfortunately.

Head over to http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/

At the top left of the page it should say "Sign up FREE". Click the button and create an account. Don't worry, it really is free.

Use a valid e-mail address and create a new password to login.

Go back to http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit and click the green button that says "Scan this system Now!". You will be asked to download and install an Active-X Control. This is a normal part of the proccess, so it's safe to install.

The tests will take a few minutes and you will see some flashing shapes on your screen. If you suffer from epilepsy or are susceptible to nausea or motion sickness, try not to look at the screen whilst it does these graphical tests.

Once it's done, just copy and paste the URL of the results page in your next post.

Cheers,
While I thoroughly appreciate the quick feedback, he decided to take it up and drop it off with the 'Geek Squad' before I had a chance to see your reply, as he uses it for business and was severly needing to get it fixed and out of the way. You may go ahead and delete this thread. Thank you again for your time. Ferguson
If you can, please let us know what the Geek Squad did to the computer and if they fixed it or not or reloaded the Operating System.

I'd really like to hear how the problem was resolved too, but it sounds like the increasingly common "nuke and pave" tech. fix is used nowadays …$100 thank you very much!

Cheers,
Lee
