hi… i have a mini laptop, with windows xp on it… it did not come with a disk with windows xp so i went into the files on my system and ran setup through winnt32.exe… everything seems to be going fine, i enter my product key and it starts installing then when it goes to restart for the first time it closes everything down then comes to a blue error screen saying STOP : 0x0000007b (0xf7aee524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) PLZ help because i need to reinstall windows to get a fresh copy on everything as over time it has started running slowly, as they do… i have avg anti virus along with adaware and spybot search and destroy and nothing is comeing up… it shouldnt be a virus as the computer is used mainly by my son so is rarely online. Thankyou :D
Bugcheck 0x7b = inaccessible boot device – Windows cannot find the system partition during startup.

Why are you reinstalling XP?

How did you start the recovery process?

What is the manufacturer and exact model number - look on label on bottom for model #.
im reinstalling windows because it seems to be running very slow and i wanted to just start agn, even when my son watches movies or plays games it freezes every few seconds… i went to my c: folder and found winnt32.exe and tryed to set up that way as there is no disk drive on this computer…. i found these instructions to do it this way by googling it… all i can figure out is this is a hp mini, i cant seem to find out where the model number is? also, now since ive done this, every time i turn the laptop on it stops b4 windows loads and gives me the option to start up win xp or win xp setup, but of course if i try setup it just goes to the same blue screen, and seems to be running slower then usual now too thx for quick reply :)

Contrary to many dubious google links suggesting otherwise, an Operating System cannot re- install itself from within itself. In other words, you cannot re-install C from within C, which is what you are trying to do. The full installation files are needed to install XP and they are not in winnt32 or anywhere else in your C drive.

Most PC's regardless of type, come with a recovery partition on the Hard Drive (usually hidden) and depending on the PC model, is accessed by pressing one of the F buttons (often F11) after beginning the PC boot-up process or using the recovery disks that came with the PC. Many newer PC's do not come with disks at all but need to be made by the owner. They can also be purchased from the manufacturer for around $30

Using one of the above recovery options will return the PC to it's factory state, but any personal files will be lost if they have not been backed up beforehand..

As you do not know or cannot find you HP PC's product number as requested by jcgriff2, you need to contact HP or the store you purchased the PC from for their advice.

Recovery CD information for a HP computer can be found here, but you do need a product number which should be on the PC somewhere. Usually on the back or bottom.

This document pertains to HP or Compaq Desktop computers with Windows XP.

HP computers that ship with Microsoft Windows XP and Compaq Presario Desktop computers made in spring of 2003 and later already come with a hidden preloaded recovery partition. This hidden partition can be used to recover all of the original software in the event of a major problem by pressing the F10 key repeatedly when the computer is first started. However, there might be times when recovery discs are needed to restore the computer, such as when a virus destroys the recovery partition. By using the Recovery CD-DVD Creator program, you can create a set of recovery discs to restore your computer back to its original condition.
Recovery CD-DVD Creator software comes on HP and Compaq Desktop computers made in Spring of 2003 and later. It is strongly recommended that you create a recovery disc set. If your HP or Compaq desktop computer with Windows XP does not have the HP Recovery CD Creator software or if recovery CDs were not created before the recovery partition was damaged or erased, you will need to find a set of recovery discs that matches your model number from the Internet or install a new operating system.
The Recovery CD Creator software can be used to make one set of recovery CDs for the computer. The recovery CD set contains a complete set of the original operating system, drivers, and application software that shipped with the computer.

Read more here about Creating Recovery discs from Windows or Creating a Recovery CD Set from a command prompt. That said, considering you have no CD drive, you would need a USB CD drive to attach to you PC to use recovery discs.

Just try the F10 directions above and keep your fingers crossed.

f10 on took me to some bios setup thing, and there was no options to recover… but after getting annoyed with it and trying out what all the buttons do i tried F6 on startup which has taken me to "roxio backontrack instant restore" program… its different to the "normal" restore program coz this one has a date that goes back to the day i brought it, which the restore program through windows wasnt working for me and had no early restore dates… so hoping this will work, i will reply once finished so other people might get some luck out of F6 too thanks again for replying, makes me feel as tho im not on my own and way over my head :)
