Sony Vaio Problem
4 min read
The problem only occurs periodically. You were not clear as to when the problem occurs? Is it that the laptop does not enter sleep mode properly, or is the problem that the laptop does not EXIT sleep mode properly? And how do you know?
The laptop does not enter sleep mode properly.
I know this because when it goes into sleep mode, the green light on the power button turns orange. When it gets stuck, (doesn't enter sleep mode properly), it stays green, the screen goes black, and the fan continues to go.
Unfortunately, sleep mode can be problematic.
You might try updating the laptops BIOS by downloading the latest flash file and following the instructions via the manufacturer's website.
Certain software on the computer could be effecting the system and you might try narrowing down what you have running at the time you have issues to see if it is related to a certain piece of software
1 Have you followed the suggestions by appleoddity above?
ie updated your bios and narrowed down the software that may be running at the time of the problem? If not then this is what is recommended, post back here with your findings.
2 It would also be wise to check that you have the latest drivers installed for your mobo chip set, video and audio together with any other hardware, as this sometimes helps with "sleep" problems.
3 Have you a good boot disc image kept safe on removable media or elsewhere, created when your machine was working correctly that you could reimage with if necessary?
4 Did you remember to make incremental boot disc images, as necessary?

There may be some information in the event log too. Sometimes the computer is prevented from entering sleep mode/hibernate mode due to a driver issue and that will be listed in the event log.

I've tried to look for the BIOS update on the Sony website but I can't find it.
Also, where do I find this "event log"
Haven't had any problems with it recently, but still think it would be good to be able to prevent it from happening again.
This should enable you to track down the problematic area.
