Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade has rendered curser selectability in Freecell dodgy. Simply positioning the curser in the bottom of the Freecell screen sometimes makes the Freecell icon jump back and forth one place in the taskbar. Machine is a Sony VAIO VGC TC210G with a Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT graphics card. The CPU usage increases in the Desktop Window Manager field from 0 to 2 when icon is jumping. Uploaded latest Nvidia drivers did nothing. Changing curser style, trails or type did nothing. Turning off the Nvidia 3D vision did nothing. I think the problem also boots me out of World of Warcraft. Any ideas?
Hi mlmyers, welcome to WhatTheTech. I can't tell from your post if you have a Desktop, Notebook or Netbook computer. Neither Google nor the Sony site recognize VAIO VGC TC210G. Can you check that and make sure it's correct please and if possible provide a link to the Sony site for that model?
Much better, I see it's a Desktop system. What kind of mouse and keyboard do you have? Are they wireless? If not, are they PS/2 type (round end) or USB? I would suggest trying a different one of each and see if that clears up the problem. From the web site, that computer comes with a ATI Radeon® X600 XT / X300. Did you upgrade to the Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT card or is the ATI an onboard chipset?
I upgraded to the Nvidia card and removed the ATI. The mouse is Logitech MK300 Wireless Desktop (USB). I did plug in a Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000, Windows automatically installed the drivers but the problem persists. Would it matter that I did not uninstall the MK300? I didn't. I don't have a PS/2 type mouse. Need I purchase one just to try it?
I don't think it's necessary to uninstall the wireless mouse., though it wouldn't hurt to do so. You never know what interaction can cause a problem. Can you borrow a wired PS/2 or USB mouse from a friend to try? I can't see buying one.
The Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 was indeed wired. It made no difference. I will uninstall the cordless, install drivers for the wired and try again. My gut tells me something in the registry is causing the problem, but my knowledge of the registry is minimal. What do I know?
You could also try creating a new account via Control Panel, User Accounts. See if it works okay there. If yes, you could copy all your data from tyhe old account to the new one then delete the old one. I can provided explicit steps needed to do this if you want.
Creating a new account fixed the problem. I'm no computer guru, but am sure wondering why. Thank you kindly for the help. I would appreciate learning how to copy data to new and delete old.
