Computer: Acer Aspire 4330 OS: Windows Vista I wasn't sure what to label this problem. I first thought I had the "plugged in, not charging" problem but now I am not sure. From Googling the problem, it is typical for a "plugged in, not charging" computer to be able to run on AC power without the battery, but my laptop will not boot solely on AC power. Also, the light indicating that it is receiving AC Power is not lit up. My battery does however not loser power when the adapter is plugged in, but it is also not charging. My laptop also behaves as if it the laptop is unplugged. I have attempted to uninstall/reinstall "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Batter" per the "solutions" to this problem found on other websites with no avail. Also, I bought a universal adapter thinking the initial problem rested there, but that also failed. I have read that the solution may be a BIOS upgrade (my current version is v1.16 if that means anything) or it may be an issue with the motherboard itself? Any suggestions/help?

Does your system boot without the adapter?

If yes..
Please run a PC PitStop test so I can see some details about your computer.

How to run PCPitStop's Overdrive tests:

  • Please go to the PCPitStop Overdrive sign-up page, click here, Signup at PCPitStop (You need to use Internet Explorer with this test so that an ActiveX control can be installed.)
  • Click "Create a free account "
  • Enter in your relevant information on the sign-up page. You must sign-up in order to have your results recorded so that we can take a look at them here.
  • After signing up you'll see the "Registration Complete" page, and you can click "Test Your System Now" to return to the test page.
  • Login with your newly created e-mail address and password on the left hand side.
  • Follow the directions to "Scan this system now." An activeX control will need to be installed. It is safe, and you should allow it to be installed.
  • Once the tests have been run, you will see an "Almost there" page requesting further information about your computer and your experience with PCPitStop, just scroll down to the bottom and click "GO."
  • A test results page will display, and I need the link to that page.
  • Look in the address bar of your browser. It will look like 'http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/…' Please copy and paste that here to the forum.

Note: PCPitStop may recommend that you use certain utilities to fix problems on your computer.

Thank you for your quick response, and I'm sorry in my delay! I believe I followed the instructions for posting my PCPitstop test results and they should be found here
must admit i find this very unusual

My battery does however not loser power when the adapter is plugged in

and would discount my thoughts, but i'll mention them anyway.

the universal adapter you bought to test with might not be able to supply your laptop with enough power to actually work anyway so i wouldn't rely on that as a good test for a faulty power supply.

if after you've followed Jkc73 link on how to test the power supply and found it to be working, i'd be inclined to believe the problem is a bad/broken connection on the power input plug of the laptop

you might be able to test that if you put slight upward pressure on the plug when it's connected and see if it will make a complete circuit and starts showing your laptop is on mains power.

just in case you missed jkc73's links here they are again..
