:wavey: I have been working on a DELL 8600 INSPIRON Laptop. WIN XP Pro. He had a faint image on the screen. I replaced the screen. Problem is that now 4 (Four) vertical lines are on the screen on the left sde. Any suggestions? Thanks. Marty :pullhair:
Hi MARTY1946, Sorry it took so long to get a reply to you. Thanks Nahumi for picking up the Thread to start the reply. Marty, I'm suspicious of a failing graphics adapter, or HEAT causing the graphics adapter to malfunction. Consider opening up that laptop case to assure that the heat removal assembly is in good contact with the graphic chip and that the radiator fins over by the fan are not clogged. The problem, if heat related, could have built over time and the TIM compound could now be hardened and not evenly distributed. Removing, servicing and replacing the heat dispersal assembly is the only way to know for sure. Consider hooking up an external monitor. If the vertical lines exist on the external monitor, then you know for sure it is the graphics adapter or heat affecting the graphics adapter. Let us know what you find. You may already have completed the fix. If so, it would be a kindness if you gave us a follow-up report to benefit other reader/members. Best Regards
Nahumi :wavey: How do I hook-up an external monitor? What I mean is, tried to and switching is a problem. The FN key to use, well I don't know whwre it is? Thank You Marty
did you take a screen shot and see if the lines were in it, like Nahumi asked? i'm assuming if they aren't then it's a good chance it's a problem with the new screen you installed and not a video card problem. to connect an external monitor, it should just be as easy as connecting it to the vga connection at the back of the laptop then closing the lid, no need for any FN keys, soon as lid is closed the external monitor should then be in use.
Hello, Sorry I didn't post back sooner ;) I was working on a friend's machine. When I see him and get access to the machine I will Post back with the results. Thank You all very much!
