Satellite M35X-S163 – I have never had an issue connecting to my router before and my dad's girlfriend never had an issues connecting at her place. I did recently got a new router, but was able to connect my work laptop and I even went in to renew/release and even added her card info and no luck, so this make me think its a hardware issue…
Sorry, sometimes thread updates get missed which I am sure is what happened this time as Doug is very diligent about following up.
The first thing I would do is take the laptop to another location that has free WIFI, like a coffee shop or public library. See if you can connect there. If yes, then the problem is the router, if not then it's the laptop.
Take one more look at Device Manager, make sure there are no yellow marks present.
Please describe the complete network you have?
ISP, make/model of router, number of computers connected and how they are connected.
Also, try resetting the router (press the very small button in and hold for 10 seconds). That should reset it to factory new state then you will have to go in and set it all up again, including Wireless access but it's worth doing to get rid of any messed up setting.
Recommend not using MAC Address filtering, at least until you have everything working. Also, don't hide the SSID, let the router broadcast it, again until all is working.
Also, let Windows manage your wireless adapter in the Laptop.
Open Services (Start then Run, type services.msc and press Enter)
Double click on Wireless Zero Configuration
Set Startup type to Automatic
Click the Start button to start the service
Click Apply then OK
Open Network Connections.
Right click on Wireless Network Connection, select Properties.
Click the Wireless Networks tab and check the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" box.
Click OK.
You should have the Wireless Network icon in the system area of the Taskbar. Right click on it and select View available networks or similar words. Pick your network and click on the Connect button.
Hi — I actually got it to work; the laptop did not like that my security was set to (WPA2-PSK) and when I changed it to (WPA-PSK) it was able to finally connect… So, tks for all the help and you can close this out. Peace!
well done, glad you got it fixed.
its important that the encryption you have set on your router matches exactly the encryption you have set on your laptop (or vice versa!)
WPA 2 is quite different from WPA and even more different from WEP….so well done on spotting the incorrect setting.
