Suspicious.Mystic has rendered my computer mostly unsusable

Last night I was on my computer (running Windows XP, not sure which Service Pack) when Norton kept popping up saying that it had blocked an attack by "Suspicious.Mystic". I wasn't on any suspicious sites at the time, but nevertheless I closed the ones I had more recently begin visiting and kept going. It continued to do this for quite awhile, but then I noticed something strange over my music- ads were playing in the background! I closed all of my internet windows to find that Internet Explorer had a script error (odd, considering I use Firefox). So, annoyed at this, I decided that I would restart my computer- big mistake. When I reloaded my computer, I could only see my background and my mouse- no icons or anything. I did a google search on how to remove this, but my computer seems to have progressed further than what anyone suggests to do.

Is there anyway I can get rid of this? The most helpful guide on how to remove it I found here does not, as I said, show as far as how far my computer has progressed. I do have two other computers that have Windows XP (and whatever Service Pack I am on), if that helps. I don't really have anything mega critical on my computer, save for one file on my desktop (additionally, if someone could guide me as to how to put that file onto a flash drive or a CD using the command prompt, that'd be very helpful!).

Thanks in advance! If I didn't give enough information, please tell me, I'll do the best I can to fill you in.
