Hello,

I have had several trojan virus and malware alerts on my computer from Avira personal anti-virus (free version). I even got one from Windows defender. I used to just click "Deny access" when the warning would come up but they were coming up more and more frequently and in different new files like in the AppData folder or other temporary file place, so I tried opening task manager and ending the process for the fake infected file, and other methods like that…but I'm still getting the warnings so I know something's there. Luckily I can still use windows vista without any problems like freezing or slowing down too much, but I fear for my sensitive information and am afraid to make online purchases with my card info, etc. I searched for this topic but I had so many different virus/malware names I wasn't sure what to do. I don't know how much of all this helps, but I am just trying to be thorough. Thank you in advance for all your help. Here is my 'HijackThis log':

Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please disable this program and leave it disabled until we are finished.

SPYBOT TEATIMER
  • Launch Spybot S&D, go to the Mode menu and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected.
  • On the left hand side, click on Tools, then click on the Resident Icon in the list.
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • Click on the "System Startup" icon in the List
  • Uncheck the "TeaTimer" box and "OK" any prompts.
  • If Teatimer gives you a warning that changes were made, click the "Allow Change" box when prompted.
  • Exit Spybot S&D when done.
  • (When we are done, you can re-enable Teatimer using the same steps but this time place a check next to "Resident TeaTimer" and check the "TeaTimer" box in System Startup.]

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these:

O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-21-447465331-2916202855-2415549318-1002\..\Run: [{593954FA-80D3-7A2D-99AD-E1E2302EA600}] C:\Users\House\AppData\Roaming\Reyv\kohu.exe (User 'House')

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete these Files if listed only from these locations.
C:\Users\House\AppData\Local\Temp\service.exe
C:\Users\House\AppData\Roaming\Reyv\kohu.exe

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Thank you. I had to restart in between my last post and this one and got a warning from Avg where I told it to delete the harmful file. I don't know how much that affected this next part.

I did what you said with hijackthis, but the items you said to check and fix are not on the list anymore. I went to the folders you said to delete the files but the service.exe is not in that Temp folder and the Roaming folder is now empty. I found this weird folder: C:\Users\House\AppData\Local\rxkwgfocr but it is empty too.

So even though I didn't have anything to check mark in hijackthis I restarted and when it was loading my desktop it gave me the error message "Could not load file: rundll32.exe "C:\Users\House\AppData\Local\cdestl.dll". So I went and searched the registry and I found these 2 entries that maybe are bad.

I found them in: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Value name: {593954FA-80D3-7A2D-99AD-E1E2302EA600}
Value data: C:\Users\House\AppData\Roaming\Reyv\kohu.exe

Value name: Jkemuruyaxubex
Value data:rundll32.exe "C:\Users\House\AppData\Local\cdestl.dll",Startup

I also found one more registry entry that maybe is bad, and I found it in: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-447465331-2916202855-2415549318-1002\Software\Microsoft\IntelliType Pro\AppSpecific\nxftksqtssd.exe
Value name: Path
Value data: C:\Users\House\AppData\Local\rxkwgfocr\nxftksqtssd.exe
But the rxkwgfocr folder is empty like the other bad ones I mentioned above.

My computer seems to be running fine still. Hopefully have no more virus and I can do online transactions now.

Here is my hijackthislog:

Again, thank you so much for your help this stuff is confusing.

-Ciggy
I think all those are bad, but lets see if MBAM removes those and finds anything else bad.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
    [external image: Posted Image]
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • [external image: Posted Image]
  • Then click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Please don't attach the scans / logs, use "copy/paste".
Here is the log from Malwarebyte: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.46 www.malwarebytes.org Database version: 4391 Windows 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Internet Explorer 8.0.6001.18928 8/4/2010 6:56:29 PM mbam-log-2010-08-04 (18-56-29).txt Scan type: Quick scan Objects scanned: 154292 Time elapsed: 3 minute(s), 21 second(s) Memory Processes Infected: 0 Memory Modules Infected: 0 Registry Keys Infected: 0 Registry Values Infected: 0 Registry Data Items Infected: 0 Folders Infected: 0 Files Infected: 0 Memory Processes Infected: (No malicious items detected) Memory Modules Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Keys Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Values Infected: (No malicious items detected) Registry Data Items Infected: (No malicious items detected) Folders Infected: (No malicious items detected) Files Infected: (No malicious items detected) If it says it found nothing is there some other way to get rid of that bad stuff?
I suggest you do this:

To enable the viewing of hidden and protected system files in Windows Vista please follow these steps:

Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.

Click on the Start button. This is the small round button with the Windows flag in the lower left corner.

Click on the Control Panel menu option.

When the control panel opens you can either be in Classic View or Control Panel Home view:

If you are in the Classic View do the following:

Double-click on the Folder Options icon.

Click on the View tab.

If you are in the Control Panel Home view do the following:

Click on the Appearance and Personalization link.

Click on Show Hidden Files or Folders.

Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.

Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide extensions for known file types.

Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Next:

Launch Notepad (Start>All Programs>Accessories), and copy/paste all the Quoted REGEDIT below to it. Don't forget to include REGEDIT4.
Save in: Desktop
File Name: fixme.reg
Save as Type: * files
Click: Save

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\{593954FA-80D3-7A2D-99AD-E1E2302EA600}]
[HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-447465331-2916202855-2415549318-1002\Software\Microsoft\IntelliType Pro\AppSpecific]
"nxftksqtssd.exe"=-

Save this as fixme.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: [external image: Posted Image]
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Next:

Delete these Files if listed:
C:\Users\House\AppData\Roaming\Reyv\kohu.exe
C:\Users\House\AppData\Local\cdestl.dll
C:\Users\House\AppData\Local\rxkwgfocr\nxftksqtssd.exe

Delete these Folders if listed:
C:\Users\House\AppData\Roaming\Reyv
C:\Users\House\AppData\Local\rxkwgfocr

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I followed the instructions and rebooted. This came up again right after it loads Windows: :Error loading C:\Users\House\AppData\Local\cdestl.dll The specified module could not be found." Other than that everything seems normal. Here is the hijackthis log:

Thank you. I went to MSCONFIG and the 'cdestl.dll' file is not listed in any of the Startup processes or services. I'm don't know exactly what the fixme.reg file was supposed to do since the weird registry entries I mentioned before are still there. I looked at the 'Roaming' folder again just because and I noticed there is this file in there: C:\Users\House\AppData\Roaming\Emmiz\ynzi.tmp. Again my computer seems to be running without problems. There is just the issue of the error message after logon, assuming you don't see any problem with the other items. Thanks for your help.

That was suppose to remove those items.

If you're comfortable working in the registry, I'd remove the bad ones.
