Hi, i seem to be having a problem with my sound on my computer. i'll try and explain what has happened and what i am going thru. one night a few weeks ago i was playing diablo. then all of a sudden i got kicked to desktop. there was a window stating that my avast anti-virus program had an update. but since it hadn't started and it asked me if i wanted to start the download i thought i'd wait till i got done playing. then all of a sudden about 5 minutes later i lost game sound. About 2 weeks earlier i fried my video card and it was replaced. since this new card is very big and my sound card is old, my first thought was i over heated my sound card and fried it. so i logged out of diablo, thought i would download the new avast and do a search for a new sound card. i ended up finding a link from microsoft about troubleshooting my sound card so i figured what the hell. as i read about what i had just found, it seemed pretty safe to run this program. after it was done it told me it had found my sound had been muted and asked me if i wanted the program to fix it. i said yes. i'm not sure if that had fixed the problem, but when avast got done, it wanted me to restart my computer for the new program to start working. After i did that, i had sound again so naturally i thought the microsoft program had fixed my sound too. then the next day i lost sound again. i found out that not only didn't the sound in diablo work, but my itunes had no sound either. i restarted my computer to see if i could get sound back and i did. so i did another search to see what i might be able to find about this and i read something about updating my sound card drivers and that could fix some sound issues. and i know it had been awhile since i had done that so i found the new ones. downloaded and installed them but i still have the problem. Sometimes i could go days with the sound working. the otherday though i lost sound again, went to restart my computer and now i lost sound loading diablo, but i had ingame sound. it was like that for 3 days, but now for some reason i have diablo music in the lobby and login and sound ingame and with itunes. i'm working with someone right now online at what the tech with some malware programs, like hijackthis and kaspersky. but i also wanted to talk to someone who might be alittle more knowledgable in hardware and not just in virus programs. i hope you might be able to decipher what i have written and might know something about my problem. we did find 3 trojans and got them removed. but as soon as i thanked him and was ready to delete the programs we installed, i lost sound, but it came back as soon as i restarted my computer. is it just a sound card failing after 2 years of use? i don't listen to music so the only sound i get is if i happen to play a video game.
