This machine, running XP SP3, started recieving slash box warnings of corrupted files. Attempted to run chkdsk /f and chkdsk /r /x in an attempt to have the disk check via autochk at boot, but saw no messages in the event viewer (possible problem with winlogon?). Recovered the bootex.log file via restore tool, but it's gibberish so I can't tell if there is an error or not. This machine is shared among many people, would rather not re-install if not required. I have run hijackthis and attached log, also attaching the bootex.log in case it makes sense to someone.

The issues with your computer that you list, doesn't appear to be related to Malware/Spyware/Virus.

Try this:

You can use windows sfc (system file checker) You'd need your XP CD to make this work.
Click Start> Run> type sfc /scannow Note the space.
(Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow)
