Hi all experts I have not download and execute (automatic) windows update for a long while (say 2 years) yesterday i feel like doing it and selected about 72 updates to download and install.. After installation , i found out my HD space have decreased by 3 to 4GB, when I check my C:\Windows size , i shown 5.76Gb I remember it was about 2 Gb sometime ago when i check it Is there any problem with it? I used CCCleaner to try to clear some space but no help. Could anyone please advice Thanks!!
I tried to seach on internet and found the following advice useful, seems the diskspaces are restored : "To get rid of the previous System Restore files (ie those one before the last System Restore point (which I'm most certain is taking up all the "extra" space)), right click on your C: drive and click on Properties, then click on Disk Cleanup button near the bottom. In the window popup, click on the second tab and down at the bottom, you will have an option to clear up every restore point before the last one. Click that and click Ok, and this should save you a lot of space." But still, my C:/Windows still has the 6Gb size…… so that means the windows size is normal? i use XP btw. thanks
There is nothing unusual nor alarming in what you have reported. Are you having some specific problem with your machine that causes you concern? Edit: It is a good thing that you allowed these updates of your Windows XP operating system. You "should" have all the way up to XP SP3, to have full good functionality and protection from known system vulnerabilities that have been corrected with updates. You should also keep your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware utilities updated regularly… at least daily.
6GB is perfectly normal for Windows XP. Uninstall files are stored within your windows folder for all the updates you installed, including service packs. That is quite a bit of updates. That menas, basically everything you downloaded is still in your windows folder, plus some.
