Connecting OS X macbook to home windows pc

I am trying to share a game on home network PC and access it from my Macbook OSX without having to download it. I have done it before by simply sharing the folder on original PC and accessed this folder from another PC at home. Accessing it from a Macbook seems like a completely different beast altogether. I have tried obtaining my PCs IP address and connecting from Macbook but it always fails. I have enabled file sharing and windows access on my macbook but i cannot find my home PC in mac's shared folder. Anyone able to offer insight into how I am able to go about accomplishing this?
