Hi I have an Acer Aspire one netbook and have been happily using the wireless capabilities of this system. Today I suddenly could not connect anymore. Nothing was changed, it just happened from one moment to the next. The Ethernet connection works fine The netbook has an Atheros AR5006X wireless adaptor. Driver date 5/20/2008 ver. 7.6.0.224. I have tried to find a site from where I can download a newer version, but have not had any luck so far. I looked at some of the other topics and have already done the: Windows IP configuration, pasted the info below. Hope someone can help. Hi sorry to hear of the problems with your wireless… here's some suggestions for your consideration…(post back with a specific question if you need a detailed step by step on how to do any of these:) 1 Try a System Restore Point created immediately prior to the problem starting…and then reboot your computer……any difference? 2 Check Device Manager..any Red or Yellow markers against your wireless network adapter? 3 Check its Properties….. update or roll back driver……does it say it is working OK? 4 Check to see if any Windows updates were installed at the same time as the problem started….. (Win Update has been known to identify hardware components incorrectly then it can install the wrong driver. 5 Check that the encryption set on your Wireless Access Point (WAP) is the same as set on your Computer…this goes both for type of encryption, and password/phrase E.G. if you are using WPA2 AES encryption on your WAP and WPA TKIF on your Computer then it won't work! (They must be the same) Passwords are case sensitive…..!< x7TH4962>""Wp19? is different from !""Wp19? so you need to check carefully and also ensure that caps lock is not on. 6 only use one wireless set of software….. if you have proprietary software and also use Windows Zero configuration this will cause problems. 7 I recommend that you only use the Windows Wireless Zero config and disable any other. post back and let us know how you go Regards paws
Hi, thanks for the fast reply I am very embarrassed, when I asked our granddaughter who was using the other computer with wifi last night if her connection was working she said it was. I did not go over to check, but this morning I used the other computer and of course it was not working on that one either. I am visiting my daughter, so I don't know their setup. Had to wait till my son-in-law was home to reset the router and all is fine again! Thanks again. I do have a question though re the driver. How come I cannot download the newer driver for the Atheros AR5006X wireless adapter anywhere? There is a newer version then the 5/20/2008 i have It is listed with sites where they do a free scan and then you have to pay to get the driver. Didn't get anywhere on the Atheros website either. Am I missing something? Helen
Hi, Glad you got it all fixed Well done  You only need to update the driver if the "latest driver" gives extra functionality that you need, or cures a fault that is presenting a problem……. Remember the old saying " if it aint broke don't go trying to fix it!" It's best to be very careful of sites that offer "more up to date drivers" and then ask for a fee….. Some of them may not have your best interests at heart….. Regards paws.
Wireless network refers to any type of computer network that is wireless, and is commonly associated with a telecommunications network whose interconnections between nodes are implemented without the use of wires.[1] Wireless telecommunications networks are generally implemented with some type of remote information transmission system that uses electromagnetic waves, such as radio waves, for the carrier and this implementation usually takes place at the physical level or "layer" of the network.

Wireless PAN
Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs) interconnect devices within a relatively small area, generally within reach of a person. For example, Bluetooth provides a WPAN for interconnecting a headset to a laptop. ZigBee also supports WPAN applications.[3] Wi-Fi PANs are also getting popular as vendors have started integrating Wi-Fi in variety of consumer electronic devices. Intel My WiFi and Windows 7 virtual Wi-Fi capabilities have made Wi-Fi PANs simpler and easier to set up and configure.

Usually it will always best to call tech support on cases such like yours, if you are really not sure with things that you need to do to make things work on your laptop, tech support are just one call away. But as long as you have an option to resolve it, try to fix it by yourself and seek help in case you are really having problem with your laptop.
