Hello. A user was complaining about slow bootups and slow performance from his computer. I looked at his startup applications through msconfig and found the dreaded olhrwef inside of it. This malware disables the ability to view hidden files and folders. I used MalwareBytes to scan the PC and it said it removed 7 entries. I do not have the log file though because the scan finished at night, and the user came in before me, and got rid of everything that was on the screen, but did take a screen shot. I ran the scan afterwards and its not finding anything, and I can view hidden files and folders, but when the machine boots up, it is using 100% CPU instantly. The major culprit of using resources varies. It does this for about 10 minutes then seems to calm down, but the cpu sits idle anywhere from 8% to 25%, which to me, seems like something is still wrong. At this point if you access something like Windows Explorer, it says that it is using anywhere from 35-75% CPU. If you open a word or excel file, it says the same thing, but with the appropriate resource in task manager. It will occasional show McAfee running at a very high cpu usage for small portions of time when other applications are being accessed or opened. Attached is the screenshot the user took before he closed the malware bots dialogue box. Any help is appreciated! Nate
