Desktop distorted

My desktop and all documents have decided to stretch themselves horizontally and I cannot undo this. The type also looks "fuzzy", almost like it is shadowed. I have rebooted, defraqed, run a virus/malware scan (nothing), have AVG running all the time, cannot understand what this is and how to correct it. It is very annoying. I am on a toshiba satellite laptop running XP.

Hi and welcome to WTT forums. It sounds like your screen resolution has altered Try this Right click on a blank part of your desktop Click on properties Click on Settings See if you can move the slider to alter the resolution let us know things go Regards paws

Also in addition to what paws has said, try removing the power cord which connects to your monitor. Then plug it back in firmly. This is a regular issue with my monitor and it displays symptoms your have described
